SOURCE: leap frog tag pen won't work any longer.

I found that after replacing the batteries, the power button on the reader did not work. I did however have luck after I connected the Reader/Pen to the laptop, updated the s/w on the reader and updated the s/w on the laptop. Then the reader was able to interact with one of the books just fine.

SOURCE: Tag will not update

I have had the same problem!! Running windows 7 64 bit. I am stuck in the same do-loop. I tried different usb port (as advised), downloaded 2 different installers from their web site, and verified the tag reader is "seen" under the USB controllers on my PC.
You also should check the following:
With TAG reader off, plug into USB port - if it does not automatically turn on device is defective.
IF it turns on do the following:
Click on the Windows start button (the small icon lower left of your computer). in the search box that comes up type devmgmt.msc and the device manager will open. Scrool down till you see Universal Serial Bus controllers and verify you see the TAG reader listed and verify there is no ! (exclamation point) next to it. If you see the exclamation point it may mean the driver is missing. If this is so right click and select properties, on the driver tab click update driver, on the next screen select browse my computer for the driver software. If you need to specify where to look try c:\Program Files\LeapFrog\LeapFrog Connect\TagUSBDrivers.

This was not my problem so I am still stuck - hope you solution was this easy. Anyone with any ideas I would appreciate help also. Customer service was unable to resolve.

SOURCE: Recharge or Batteries: All of the above required?

It can run off of batteries alone, or the ac adapter alone. There is a rechargeable battery pack (think laptop battery) that is available. With this pack you would plug it in to the wall, charge it up, then play. Otherwise it's one or the other

I cant access to facebook, gmail, hotmail. this massage is displayed in the screen: Access Denied by SmartFilter I think that it was blocked by DOS.

I did a Google search for smartfilter, and it is a McAfee product. I know nothing about their products from the last ten years, but Internet security software can be a major headache. Here is my approach:

I do most of my Web browsing using Ubuntu Linux with Firefox Web browser. On my Windows machine I currently use Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus, Windows Firewall is turned on, that's it. I do AdAware scans from time to time, and Spybot Search& Destroy scans as well. I use AdBlockPlus on my Firefox browser on both machines. I accept cookies, including third-party cookies, but dump cookies when I close Firefox, except for those sites I make exceptions for, which I allow. Sites I allow are those that use cookies to keep me signed in and allow me to set preferences on the site.

I would recommend that you make sure you have updated Windows, have the Windows firewall or your McAfee firewall on, your antivirus software definitions are up-to-date, that you periodically scan with AdAware amd with Spybot, and that their definitions are current before you scan.

I also recommend that you regularly check your disk for errors and defragment it if using Windows.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and hasn't updated in almost a year... I keep getting: Windows Update error 80072efd. I tried the fixes recommended by Microsoft, but cannot fix my computer. Any fixes?

It may be your antivirus or firewall settings not allowing that site...You can allow it under TOOLs>Internet options>security>trusted sites then allow---go to the site directly and "check for updates" http://*.update.microsoft.com

I cannot update my eset smart security 4 directly through inernet.the internet here is firewalled.what shud i do to update my antivirus directly from internet

Try adding an exception to the firewall settings, as to allow Eset Smart Security to update itself. If you are having problems adding an exception to the firewall, do post another question, specifying what firewall it is, and I shall try my best to write a step-by-step guide to adding the exception.

I cant install yahoomessenger its asking for firewall settings which i cant understand where to do that

A system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria.
to disable firewall
  • Right-click on My Network Places
  • Select Properties
  • Double click Local Network Connection or Modem
  • Click Advanced
  • Uncheck Internet Connection Firewall

thats where u cud find the firewall settings on ur windows....

and also if ur using any antivirus... u wud be required to diable the firewall settings there as well
since i do not know what antivirus u might be using iam sending u link which has a list of procedures for disabling firewall in various antivirus softwares... identify ur product and do the procedure given under it

What is the different between xp serrvice pack 1 and 2

A service pack is a collection of all updates released to that point, and often includes new features, as well.

The major enhancements in Windows XP Service Pack 2 include Security Center, Automatic Updates, Windows Firewall, and Internet Explorer.

Security Center is an entirely new feature provided by Windows XP Service Pack 2. The Security Center service runs as a background process in Windows XP and routinely checks the status of the following components:
1. Windows Firewall: Security Center detects whether Windows Firewall is enabled or disabled. Security Center can also detect the presence of some third-party software firewall products.
2. Automatic Updates: Security Center detects the current Automatic Updates setting in Windows XP. If Automatic Updates is turned off or not set to the recommended settings, the Security Center provides appropriate recommendations.
3. Virus Protection: Security Center detects the presence of antivirus software from many third-party organizations. If the information is available, the Security Center service also determines whether the software is up-to-date and whether real-time scanning is turned on.

When Security Center detects an important security condition (such as improper settings), it displays a pop-up notice in the notification area.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 provides several enhancements to the Automatic Updates feature, including the following:
■ The latest version of Automatic Updates offers expanded support for Microsoft products, including Microsoft Office.
■ Previous versions of Automatic Updates could download only critical updates. Now Automatic Updates can download updates in the following categories: security updates, critical updates, update roll-ups, and service packs.
■ Automatic Updates now prioritizes the download of available updates based on the importance and size of the updates. For example, if a large service pack is being downloaded, and a smaller security update is released to address an exploit, that security update will be downloaded more quickly than the service pack.
■ Automatic Updates is now more automated. The need for users to accept End-User License Agreements (EULAs) has been eliminated. Also, the user now has a choice of whether to restart the computer following the installation of updates that might require a restart. Updates that do require a restart can now be consolidated into a single installation so that only one restart is required.

Previous versions of Windows XP include a software-based firewall named Internet Connection Firewall (ICF). After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2, this firewall is replaced by Windows Firewall.
Windows Firewall boasts a number of enhancements, including the following:
1. Windows Firewall is now enabled by default on all network
connections.
2. Windows Firewall provides an interface for configuring global settings that apply to all the connections of the computer.
3. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Firewall supports a new feature that allows you to keep Windows Firewall enabled and also not allow any exceptions; only solicited traffic is allowed. This new feature is intended to create an even more secure environment when connecting to the Internet in a public location or other unsecured location.
4. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, a startup Windows Firewall policy performs stateful packet filtering during startup, so that the computer can perform basic network tasks (such as contacting
DHCP and DNS servers) and still be protected.
5. In previous versions, you could not apply firewall rules based on Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, you can configure Windows Firewall so that firewall rules apply to IP addresses (or IP address ranges), meaning that only traffic from computers with valid IP addresses is allowed through the firewall.
6. In previous versions, you configure permitted traffic by specifying the TCP and UDP ports used by a service or application. In Windows XP Service Pack 2, you can also configure permitted traffic by specifying the file name of the application. When the application runs, Windows firewall monitors the ports on which the application listens and automatically adds them to the list of allowed incoming traffic.

Internet Explorer:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 introduces a number of new security features to Internet Explorer 6. As with the rest of the enhancements introduced with Windows XP Service Pack 2, most of the updates to Internet Explorer are intended to provide better security.

Did you download it illegally? Regardless, Norton sucks and you need to get rid of it. Most likely The firewall in Norton is blocking access from the program on your computer. Open Norton and Find the Firewall settings (i havent used norton in many years so i forgot where it is; Possibly udner configure or settings or something). Allow access to the program through the firewall and if you bought it then allow full internet access to it as well. Hope that helps :)
