SOURCE: A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards

SOURCE: No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

SOURCE: On my DC18 there is

  • I actually answered a question just like this the other day. On the DC18 the switch is automatic. When the vacuum is upright the suction is automatically to the hose.
  • When you tilt the handle back the suction is automatically to the floor.
  • If you took things apart and cleaned them and have no suction through the hose when the vacuum in the upright position then this is a manufacturers defect.
  • The way I know this is for the other persons issue I called Dyson directly because I wanted to see why I could not see a switch and they told me there was none, it was automatic.
  • Here is the good news. Dyson offers a full 5 year warranty and the DC18 has only been out for 4 years. So every DC18 on the market is still under a full warranty.
  • What Dyson told me is this. Contact Dyson and they will see if their is a repair center near you and if so then you can drop it off there for a 100% free warranty repair.
  • If there is no repair shop in your area then they will ship it both ways and repair it 100% free on Dyson.

  • Here is there contact information.
  • Here is the link to choose the country should you be outside the USA. http://www.dyson.com/ If you choose that link the when the page loads got to the lower right of the screen to the fine print and click on "contact us" and the information will show up.

SOURCE: suction only coming through the wand when its replaced its not switching back to the upright. I have a dyson DC28 animal

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC28 doesn't seem to be working correctly. It sounds as though the change-over valve may be jammed - this diverts the suction to the hose when you remove the wand, and back to the cleaner head when you replace the wand on your machine.

You may find a blockage is jamming the valve - you can check for this using our online Support guide:

If you can't find any obstructions, please get in touch with us directly as we'd appreciate the opportunity to provide further assistance. If you email us at askdysonUS@dyson.com, we'll be in touch as soon as possible.

I am guessing this is the same one that has the clogging issue. Normally the screws for dismantling are in recessed holes ( they are a few inches deep) and fastened with Phillips head. You will be able to see them with a flashlight. Take off the bag container door and remove the bag or dirt collection bin. There will be screws behind that as well. On the bottom there will be screws that hold a cover over the beater brush. when that is removed you should see the belt and the slots that the beater brush seats into. That just pulls out. Once inside there are separate screws holding the 90 degree turns for the hose path. Prob 2 of these. Make sure you go through the ENTIRE hose path. I guarantee there is a big clog of hair, paper, pencils and small animals in there. If not confident in remembering how to put back together take pictures.

The unit is not sucking anything up. checked for possible clogs in the hose - all clear. Took base off and cleared the bottom hose - put all back together and still not cleaning anything up.

There may be a screen filter beneath the bag that's clogged. Remove the bag, check, and clean if necessary.
Also, check the power head above/behind the brush. Things sometimes get caught in the tube between the brush and the hose.
There may also be holes or cracks in the hose will also reduce the "suction".
If these aren't the problem, take the vacuum to a repair shop, preferrably an authorized Riccar store.

The motor on my carpet tool (beater brush) stopped running yesterday. The main vacuum still works, but the switch for the carpet tool just clicks and doesn't turn it on.

    Knowing the model would help.
    Possible problems:
Broken or disconnected wire in hose, connections, power nozzle.
Hose needs replaced. Check all connections for discoloration and cracked supports. Have power nozzle checked at a vacuum shop. Depending on the model, take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for this.
Bad power nozzle motor Needs replaced.
Bad switch. Take the whole machine in for thorough check and repair..

No suction and noisy when cleaner is turned on. Cleaned filters and hoses to no avial.

Since this unit is direct drive, there is no belt to deal with.
There are manuals at this URL: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0403208.pdf they show the parts and have messages on dealing with clogs. Sounds like there might be something caught up in the impeller. If you removed the hose from the bottom back of the vacuum, you might be able to check for debris that is caught in there. While you are at it, a good cleaning of the beater brush might help as well. Paul

If you are not familiar with the part.
We recommend taking it to a repair shop!
Preferably a repair shop that offers free estimates.
Because, trying to replace that part could cause more damage.

If the filters have been washed and installed back in instantly there wont be any suction. Check the top filters have been cleaned thoroughly and also check inspection tubes/hose and dust channels to check for a clog. Also check the sole plate / bottom of where the beater bar as there may be a clog somewhere.

Suction loss when handle is tipped back to clean carpet

    can any one help,
Our Dyson Animal vacuum has plenty of suction when it is upright and the attachments are being used off the hose, but when the handle is tipped back to begin cleaning carpets the beater head is getting no suction. As the handle is being tipped back you can hear what sounds like a flapper valve in the body of the vacuum opening and then all the suction just goes away.

Hoover eite rewind vacuum has blocked airflow, how do i fix?

Is there suction at the end of the hose, if not then the blockage is in the hose, unhook the hose and dig out the debris, if hose isn't blocked, then clean out the filters, if they get clogged, then air can;t flow thru them and you won't have suction. If you have suction at the end of the hose, then it is clogged down in the nozzle asm. there is an inlet by the brush roll and it comes up to where the hose plugs into. Clean the clog out.
