SOURCE: Dewalt cordless drill

You have burned out the drill motor, it is shorted, the battery smoked due to a direct short, one thing I don't understand why the thermal limiter didn't trip in battery pack, I would contact manufacturer and try to get hem to buy you a new drill.

SOURCE: I have a DeWalt DW927 cordless drill. It's lost

the brush assembly slides out of the back of the motor. I suggest going to and downloading a breakdown for this tool before starting. I don't think that the brushes are going to be your only problem though.

Under heavy load, driver slips, makes grinding noise. How to fix?

Sounds like the gears are worn out. Not worth fixing. But if you buy a drill that uses the same battery pack, now you will have a spare battery and charger.

The DCD950 drill has a chuck that does not require the reverse-threaded lock screw. It is put on with lok-tite and a good deal of torque. It is hard to remove without the Dewalt vice tool to hold it but not impossible. Some can be removed by tightening the chuck in a vice and, using the drill handle for leverage, apply steady, even, strong pressure until it breaks free. Using this method usually bends the part of the chuck in the vice making it useless. Another reason for the chuck not turning when the motor is turning is a broken transmission. If the chuck works properly in tightening down and releasing bits, your problem may be in the transmission. If you go to and search for your model number you can look at a breakdown of your drill and what you're looking at to replace the transmission.

Dewalt drill won't work in 1st gear then it kicks in and works

You could have lost one teeth on the gear wheel . Once it is rotating the system will not miss the lost teeth, until you loose some more teeth then you will loose power and the drilling will become jerky and might even stop on applying pressure

Dewalt 28v drill/driver making screeching noise

No, this is not normal. Take it back to your retailer and let them know about the problem.

I have a few tools that will get a little noisy and it is cold out - as in lower than 15 degrees - but it goes away as the tool warms up.

Your problem sounds like clearance issues within the drill, and just dealing with the noise could be damaging the tool further.

DW988 1st and 2nd gear doesnt work, 3rd gear works

You may have put it back together wrong, but you may also need a new transmission. 99% of the power tools I work on where the gears are slipping is caused by the transmission or gear box (both names are used interchangeably).
Good luck to you!
