There is a fantastic app on the appstore called Battery Saver, it has a really high review and I use it as well. If you use it proerply you can double the length of your battery, here's the link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/battery-saver-improve-battery/id615987910?mt=8

New battries won't charge.

Sounds like the batteries are completely dead, you'll probably need to replace them, sometimes you can only use batteries until they die, and that goes for Wheelchair Batteries too. If they won't charge or keep a charge then they are dead.

Ipod not charging

Does it turn on when it is plugged in? If may be a bad battery. Sometimes when a LiOn battery goes completely dead and is left for an extended period of time, it will not accept charge. If it is under warranty, contact Apple support and have the battery replaced.

Cheers

The most likely cause of this problem is a dead battery.
Most Apple stores will tell you it's more cost effective to replace your iPod rather than repair it but, the battery can be changed and parts are relatively easy to get hold of on eBay for around about £10.
