Question about IBM System x3250 M3 4252 - Server - rack-mountable - 1U - 1-way - 1 x Xeon X3450 / 2.67 GHz - RAM 2 ... (425252U)
I have a system X3250, due to a UPS failure during a power outage, the server lost power and would not come back up. (Wouldnt power on) Contractor checked and advised that the motherboard was fried, so had that replaced, next contractor called and advised that the raid card was dead - replaced that. Now contractor saying that the hard drives are still not picking up. Because this server had critical data, I swapped the hard drives from a working server with the hard drives on this one before sending to contractor so I know for a fact the hard drives are fine.. What else should I look at / get them to look at.
You know i find this all very suspicious. For one thing a ups is designed to take the hit so it will get fried and your computer will be fine. Suspicious to me but not an answer to your question so i will try this. The new raid card was installed (might be off on this part, haven't kept up with this) were the hard drives and the raid assembly matched back up. IE raid 1, 2, 3 etc. Do believe they are up to raid 7 now. So if hard drives were not put back in the original position and and raid card setup for the original raid array you might have this problem. Hope this helps, but it's been a long time since i worked with raid arrays.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: raid w/ hard drive defunct
Well lets make some assumptions
1. You have a Raid 5 System
2. You only have 3 drives in the Raid ARRAY
3. Only 1 drive has failed
To fix the problem you should only need to Replace the Failed Drive
Then start the raid management software or bios
Rebuild the array
If you have more than 1 drive failed in a RAID 5, and still must recover the data it is possible. But very expensive. Still fixable however.

SOURCE: server doesnt boot
First create a floppy disk with your RAID driver for W2K3 Server. Next boot the server with the W2K3 Server CD, and hit F6 when prompted, and S to add the specific driver for your RAID and using the floppy to get the driver installed.
Next boot to the recovery console of W2K3 Server. If it finds your hard disk, it will even ask for your Administrator's Password to continue. If this works, then you are probably home free.
Get to the command line of the W2K3 Server Repair console and perform some directory searches to see if the data is there and intact. You can also perform a CHKDSK from that console.
Once you have made sure your data is there and intact, type these two commands: FIXMBR and FIXBOOT
This should solve the problem and when you EXIT out of the console, it should reboot. Remove the CD and it "should" re-boot from the hard disk.
If you still have problems, let me know with how far you got with the steps above. I have another solution but need to know your RAID controller's model (ServeRAID 5i, 6i, etc).

You need to give windows installation the drivers for your Sata-Bus by pressing F6 while the installation load the drivers (like when we want to install on RAID drive). or do the following method follow the links in that page for Slipstreaming VIA Serial ATA drivers and the other link to create a boot CD Creating a bootable Windows CD with Nero.
it's all in the following link: http://weblogs.asp.net/jkey/archive/2005/08/28/423901.aspx

While running the windows 2003 setup (winnt.exe), it will ask for SASI driver, you have to add the scsi driver... then windows 2003 os will detect the HDD.. then it will install..
