Car starts, then won't run

Car will start, but not run. I have often used a remote starter to warm up. can hear iy start, but then die. same when using key. I have tried swapping relays to no avail

Engine cranks very slow on starting and will not start

refill the battery with electrolyt and charge it fully, then try to start the vehicle
If it cranks/turns over no faster have the starter motor checked.

Ensure that the timing belt is intact before you do anything, and that it is in the correct position.
Ensure that the oil is clear of water and is clean and is topped up to the top mark on the dipstick

Assuming you have checked the above and the belt and oil/coolant is all as they should be, and you have a fully charged battery and the starter is ok .......attempt to start the vehicle. Turn it over/ crank it over a few times if it does not start immediately.
Should it not start perform a compression check to find out the
engine's state of health.

Then come back with the results and we can go feom there.

My car wont start after I have driven a while and turn off engine. When I try to start it cranks well but will not turn over. If I let it sit for 20 minutes it will start again???

Sounds like you're in tank fuel pump is starting to go bad..happened to my astro van a few years ago..kept doing this until one day it just didn't work. Have someone do a fuel pressure test before and after turning the engine over...Also try this..before trying to start your engine turn your switch to ON for about ten seconds and listen very carefully for the pump running to prime the fuel system and injectors it should run for about five seconds...then try starting the engine...get into the habit of waiting those 10 seconds to insure proper priming of the system..good luck

Could you tell me were the immobiliser unit is on a 1990 nissan pulsar n13 motor as it starts sometimes soon as you turn it off it will not start again,

Wait a minute, thats probably too old to have a chip in the key, in that case it's likely its the wiring harness to the fuel pump, perhaps there is an access port under back seat to get at it. check your connectors and run a ground wire directly to the gas tank and make sure it's grounded then try it. Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key on?

Wont turn on

does the lights come on but the motor does not turn, if it is this it can be the starter for the motor inside next to the motor is a started solenoid this starts the motor to run. when they start to fail you get a buzzing sound or a humming, eventually it just fails. also the motors are prone to fail after time, and they don't do replacements for this part

Yes, you have a fuel pump in the gas tank.
But, before you replace the pump, check the fuel pressure.

If you can access the fan, spray lubricant onto the shaft as close to the fan body as possible. It will work it's way into the bearing

could be voltage regulator is faulty or there could be another faulty sensor. You can test any sensor with an ohmmeter.

i went to my mechcanic the same day my engine started to make the same loud noise that you are talking about. he said that it was the flex pipe. just this morning (5:30am 8/3/09) i went to dunkin donuts for my morning coffee and while waiting in line, my car just stopped running. like you said, when you take your foot off the gas and press the break, the car stops. no doubt about it, it is the flex pipe. im sure by now you got your car fixed but i thought that i'd share my car troubles with you :)

Car dieing

You may have a Vacuum Leak, Throttle Position Sensor may be bad, and the MAP Sensor. Those are know to go on the 3.1L Chevy Lumina's. Thank you for using Fix Ya! Don't forget to rate the overall rating of this answer. Good Luck.
