Does the problem occur instantly as it goes into fourth? Or does it take time? You could be experiencing an electrical problem but I doubt it. The first thing I would do is change the fuel filter. If the problem persists then check the output fuel pressure from the pump. This is a silly thing but make sure you don't have any blown fuses. Also the car may have stored error codes. Checking these codes with a diagnostic tool can help point you in the right direction. Is the air intake system completely in tact? did you clean the mass airflow sensor?

My 2005 jaguar s type stuck in reverse. Please help me

My 2005 S-Type was stuck in reverse but the gear stick was stuck in park. After taking the console apart trying to figure out why the shift lock wouldn't open...three hours later I got under the car and discover that one of the two bolts that held the transmission cable in place was missing...I replaced it and that was all it took.

When accelorating. engine judders then picks up if revs kept high. the car is 2.2 56 plate

Mine does this. It's accompanied by what sounds like air escaping with a high pitched sound, usually when changing from first to second. Also, sometimes no grunt in first gear as if turbo not working, engine revs but car goes nowhere and then loads of black smoke comes out of back.

Cannot get the car into gear

usually a cable/linkage issue on s types and x types. cable stretches and a plastic clip breaks and you have to go to 3 or 4th on the automatic shifter to get it to engage. about a $400.00 repair. This is a very common issues on these model Jaguars.
