Coolant leak at firewall (outside) on 1991 4.9 F150. Comes out at the bottom of the housing mounted to the firewall.

If hoses seem Ok and the clap is tight it may be the Heater Core has sprung a leak, although is leaking outside maybe the line where the hose attaches has a leak.

In my 1991 F150 (186,000 imles)I have a strong glychol smell that is comming from my HVAC system - the only thing I can think of is a leak in the heater core, but I nothing dripping to the ground. Could...

Your nose and suspicions are probably correct. If you start to notice a film on the inside of your windshield while driving at night its definately your heater core pushing antifreeze through your defrost vents. I don't suggest trying any additives. Those quick fixes have sent more vehicles to the junk yard than I'd like to think about.

Replace heater core

Disconnect heater core hoses. Remove glove box assembly. Remove the 8mm screws holding the cover on over the heater core. There may be a module in front of the cover. Move module out of way. Carefully disconnect heater control cable. The heater core should come out .

97 ford f150 4.6 the pipe that gos to heater core hose is leaking. is this pipe pressed in? thanks

The inlet/outlet pipes (tubing) is an integral part of the heater core. If the actual core is leaking, you 'll need to remove and replace or repair the heater core. Be sure it's not the hose that is failing ... alot easier and cheaper to change out a hose and clamps...
