Seems like the lamp needs replacing, take the lamp out and see if its warped or bulb filament cracked. If so replace the lamp you can get one here. http://tvtechwork.webs.com/
Check the audio setting to make sure the internal speakers aren't turned off. Check to see if it's set to use external speakers. If it is setup to run sound through an av receiver check all connections, make sure the receiver is on the correct input setting, and speaker wires.
have a magavox tv combo, with dvd and vcr. It will not stay on unless you put a tape in and spend 30 minutes to an hour turning it on and it goes off automatic. Less than two years old.
