Will light for only a few seconds and goes out again
It sounds like the thermocouple is going out. That's the solid copper line that the pilot heats up telling the gas valve when to open and close. You could try to replace it or pull burner from under heater and using a dollar bill clean the tip and replace. If its not completely out, this should do the trick
