I was picking some free channels from the channel store and it froze up, so I disconnected the power to start it over again and it has been stuck on launching home screen for hours.

Background:
I'm assuming you have Cablevision. This is becoming a known problem with their broadcasting system. They have been upgrading since last thursday and it has been causing the Sharp TVs to freeze up on channel 7.1. There have been reports of channel 21, 21.1, and 24 as well.
Simple way to fix it:
1. Unplug tv
2. Unplug coax from tv
3. Plug tv back in
4. In the Menu go to Setup > CH setup > CH Memory > Cable (digital)
5. Enable channel skip for channel 7.1
6. Push Menu to exit
7. Change to any other channel
8. Reconnect coax to tv.
Followup:
Avoid channel 7.1 and go give Cablevision a call and let them know about it. They won't do anything to fix it until they get a certain number of reported issues about the problem. Enjoy.

The TV is shutting down because there is an internal fault.
the most common cause for sudden shutdown is overheating.
Ensure that the fans are working.
More causes for sudden shutdown are:
PSU failure.
Inverter failure.
Main board failure.
LCD controller.

Hi - I have the same problem. Also in Cornwall LG were not interested in helping because the TV was 3 1/2 years old. There was a possible fix in the end offered via LG at a cost of £180 + vat - a hardware update that might or might not work but I was not going to pay that so I now watch my LG 42 plasma via a £25 digi box from the CO OP. LG must have sold 1000's of these Tv's so when the digital switch starts in the more populated areas of the country I exect many more web postings.
