Assuming you can still turn the key, take off the shroud/casing around the barrel, turn to position 1 and there is a little hole in the metal surround, press in the hole with a point of small flat screwdriver and the barrel will come out. If you cant then its a bit more difficult and may result in a 2nd hand steering column

Immobiliser faults

HI
I hope that you still have the old key.
all you have to do is that: open up the old key/remote and look inside it for a small black rectangle piece, this is the immobilizer chip.
remove it carefully don't brake it, and place it inside the new key/remote, put a little glue on it

good luck

Vauxhall astra circuit board

Many of these items may be controlled by a relay or circuit that is activated by the ignition switch. If the devices become active when jiggling the ignition switch (key), then you know that it is in the switch. It may still be in the switch, but the jiggling may not help. I have the same problem in my Dodge.

My car wont start, 1997 vauxhall astra 1.7 turbo diesel

This sounds like a problem in the fuel shut off circuit. When you turn the key on, it energizes the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. When you turn off the key, power is removed and the pump is moved by spring to the fuel off position. Check for power at this terminal when you are having a problem, ( with the key on) If no power then I would check the wiring and connectors from this connection to the Ignition key. I believe it is wired direct. That can be checked at http://www.alldata.com/products/index.jsp

subscribe3 and get a wiring schematic for the car and see if it is wired direct to the ign switch of from a relay, I am sure it is a connection problem if you have no power.

A 1.7 diesel even if turboed, is dead slow in any vehicle let alone a van. Enjoy the fuel economy

good luck
