Riccar serger hand wheel stiff

Could very well be seizing due to lack of oil or buildup of lint, etc. Sergers generally require frequent oiling with fresh good quality oil (consult the manual). Continuing to force the motor to run when the machine is seized can burn up the motor.

JX2517. Why is hand wheel stiff and machine not sewing properly?

The owner's manual states in the Maintenance section (page 34):

"In order to prevent damaging this machine, it must not be oiled by the user...

If problems occur, such as difficulty turning the handwheel or an unusual noise, immediately stop using the machine, and contact your authorized dealer or the nearest authorized service center."

How do I oil my singer concerto 2240. I have not used it for a while and the wheel seems stiff. It is a great machine and I have it 18 years.

There are typically small pinholes here and there for oil, and a drop or two on any moving joints probably wouldn't hurt, a service manual, or probably even the users manual, would show you where to oil. You could probably find a manual somewhere with a quick Google search.

As for the oil, you'll want a lite oil, probably silicone based, and NOT something like WD-40, 3-in-1 oil usually works well, though can be a bit heavy sometimes.

How do I get a Service manual for an Industrial Sewing Machine

If the handwheel is really stiff and the machine is making awful noises, then your machine may need oiling. Don't know if this is the case with your industrial machine, but it may be something to consider.

Motor is fine, but won't sew

since the machine has been setting for 20 years, it needs to be serviced
the old grease & oil have probably turned the gunk. the servicing can also tell if any parts are damaged

The needle doesn't go up & down. Any suggestions? Thank you

Does the handwheel turn eazy or is it stiff. If it is stiff you need to take the top and bottom off and lubricate all moving parts. may take a bit of turning the handwheel and lubicating(it may tire you out). If the handwheel is not stiff I would check to see iff the motor is spining at all. If motor is not spining may be a bad footcontrol. If it is spining try cleaning the belt pullys and tighting the belt.
hope this helps

Its a Singer 400z and the workings are very stiff,

You'll need to lubricate the machine, or take it in for service. If you have the manual for the machine, it will have photos, showing you where the oiling points are for your particular model. Be sure to use a good Sewing Machine Oil.

Here is a Singer website, with frequently asked questions. It might be a help to you. http://www.singerco.com/support/faqs.html

Bernina Patchwork 140 handwheel is getting stiff to turn

A stiff handwheel can be a simple as a thread stuck in the raceway or as severe as a failed uppershaft bushing.

Using your instruction manual, perform the basic maintenance and see if that helps. If not, take it to a repair person for evaluation.

Husqvarna Viking 6440 buttonholer, reverse frozen

Hi,
A seller on e-bay who redoes Viking machines says the the grease they put in them (the older vikings) becomes too stiff and the knobs stop turning. He cleans them out and then he adds some kind of teflon lubricant. Probably can find him on e-bay still. He is informative.
