SOURCE: How to turn off blue keys for an Compaq mini

Hi,

if you are refering to the blue letters or alphabets which are present on the keyboard. HP designs keyboard with a billingual layout in some Notebook models.

The HP "Blue" keys are indeed the "French" input keys or other language keys.

How to use the Blue Symbols or keys on a HP Notebook:

We can activate them by pressing Ctrl+fn+right Shift. To deactivate, press Ctrl+fn+right Shift twice, i.e. Ctrl+fn+right Shift then let go off Shift while still holding Ctrl and fn, then press Shift again.

When you press Ctrl+Fn+Right Shift it will switch to the the billigual layout. That means the blue characters become prioritie.

For example, if you are in the billingual layout, when you press shift+6 you will get a '?' but not the '^' sign.

If you forgot the password of the hard drive I'm afraid there is no way to access the drive any more. This password is used to encrypt the hard drive entirely, and without this key there is no way to decrypt the files or access the drive.

SOURCE: compaq nx6310 factory bios reset

You can try removing the CMOS battery or take it in to a good shop they have the software tweaks to do that. I know most folks are avoiding the shops for a good reason however some things just are not avoidable and by the time you learn how to crack a lost password plus purchase the software program to do it. You will already be up and running for an hours time at a shop to reset it.
This is why it is critical to make a password reset disc right away or do not use a password that you will forget over time. I use the last four of my social when I use a password who can forget that.....
Another option is to re-install and re-boot the computer to its factory settings using your restore software that came with your purchase.............John

SOURCE: HOW TO REMOLVE A BIOS PASSWORD

Unfortunately there is no real way of unlocking a BIOS password, the only time I have been able to get into a locked BIOS was to remove the laptop battery and leave it for a few days, but that was an old laptop. New laptops will store BIOS passwords in NVRAM to stop people from being able to access it.
You will need to RMA the machine to Compaq.

I'm not sure if you have a DVD/CD drive but have you tried a repair disk? Have you reseated the HDD? Sound like a HDD issue. Remove and test the HDD. Replace if necessary.

After switching on my compaq mini cq10, the screen loads as normal and then after a few minutes it goes grey and i cannot see anythinh

Depending on the age of the system this can be a few things. If the system is older, it may be that the cable connecting the video display to the video source has become worn and is no longer broadcasting anything. The more likely cause is that the inverter or back light are going bad. If you hold a light up to the screen, can you see the windows, text, or anything else that was on the screen before it went grey? If yes, then the back light is going out and you need to replace the LCD. If not, then the inverter has gone bad and you need to replace the inverter.
