SOURCE: Kenmore Elite HE4 gas dryer, no heat at all

The ignitor may be bad or the thermal fuse may be failed.

The F40 error is a communication error which means the main control W10111616 is not communicating with the motor control part number 8544799.

First - go through the machine and check all harneses 7 plugs. This expensive machine uses the cheapest parts possible. Unplug and re-plug all connections you can find.
Particularly the controller (CCU) and motor.

Most likely neither control is the problem but since the main control was replaced we know it's not the problem.

The key to diagnosing this problem is to check voltage to the motor control. There is a black and white wire going to L1 and neutral.
Refer to the wiring diagram for an image of this.
If there is 120 volts to the control and the blower motor is not running then the 8544799 motor control is most likely at fault.

It is more likely you will not read voltage there.
Use extreme caution checking live voltage and only do so if you're comfortable and confident using a volt/ohm meter.

If there is no voltage to the motor control and the main motor doesn't run the thermal fuse can be at fault or the main control which was replaced and didn't help.

From the description you give I believe the main motor is running when you get the F40 code so the thermal fuse and main control are most likely okay.

If there is no voltage to the motor control then the problem can be a fuse link that may be open preventing voltage from getting to the motor control.

This part is not the thermal fuse and is not listed in the parts diagram or even shown on the wiring diagram. The fuse link is most likely the cause of your troubles.
If the inline fuse link is open you will have to replace the entire wire harness. The inline fuse link is not available as a separate part.

check the thermal fuse on the blower housing if its open some units wont heat, also check the heating element if heated electrically,or the ignitor on gas fired units,by the number you provided i believe you meant its a 110.85081400 instead of the 100.85081400 (and is electrically heated) you provided which is produced by whirlpool for sears (kenmore) also there is a control board located inside behind the control panel that may be a culprit, but check the first two things i suggested at the top

SOURCE: my kenmore He4 dryer will not heat.

I have a Maytag 9200 which is similar. There are a few ways to troubleshoot the problem. There is a sensor inside the drum which detects whether the clothes are wet, that sensor can be broken. There are two "fuses" which prevent the dryer from overheating and the third possibility is the heating element is burned out. The sensor/fuses are very inexpensive, as is the heating element. I've found it's less expensive to purchase all, and replace each until the problem is solved. In all, if you are able to do the work yourself, it's going to be less than the cost of a "housecall", or diagnostic fee. If the dryer is older, it's often less expensive, or logical to replace it rather than fix. Ebay and Amazon are great places to purchase the required parts...

Here's a previous solution offered.

using multi-meter need to check the heating element and the thermostats for continuity. you are getting a full 240 volts at the outlet right? if only 120 then u will be able to run the appliance but not the heating cycle.

I have a Kenmore Elite HE4 dryer and it is not heating up. I changed the coil and cleaned out the lint. Is there a reset button?

If it isn't heating up but running otherwise, you probably blew the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is often blown by the high limit thermostat going bad, and thus may need to be replaced also.
