Problem is you removed side cover with chain brake closed. You must open the chain brake to re-install the cover. You can do it with the handle. Put the side cover into position, put the handle into the fitting on the side cover. push the handle forward until you feel the "3" point connector engage. apply pressure to the handle and pull back until the side chain brake "Pops" open. Your Husqvarna dealer has a tool to open the chain brake if you are unable to get it open. Takes about 5 mins.

SOURCE: 455 rancher chainsaw does not pump oil to the chain

If you look under the machine by the chain you'll see a flat head screw (next to the sprocket) which controls the bar and chain oil flow . Try to turn the screw and check if there's any oil flow to the chain . If not you will need to replace the oil pump (part # 537 10 55-02 which will cost you about $35.00) Hope this help

SOURCE: how to disengage or fix chain break on husqvarna

It sounds as though you have tried resetting the brake to no avail. If I were you any Monday through Friday at 1300 - 1500 I would be in my local Husky dealer (not Lowes). Someone familiar with the saw that can see and touch it. I suspect you will need parts once the problem is isolated, order them there and the diagnosis will probably be gratis. Factor in the shipping and handling fee and most dealer prices are competitive.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Good Luck. HTH

How to get the chain brake reset so ou can get the sidecover back on

If you have removed the sideplate on your chainsaw with the chain brake in the locked position, you will have a very hard time getting it back on without destroying the brake band. If you have done this try this solution. First remove the bar and chain fronm the saw, then start putting the side cover on, use one of the nuts on the front screw. As it comes in contact with the ratcheting part of the hand break make sure you push the chain brake handle forward while tightening the front nut I mentioned. when the nut is snug, pull the brake handle back to reset the brake, You will hear it click into place. then remove the side cover and re install the bar and chain. your good to go/

Problem chain / break cover chainsaw

Hi, hold the cover in a vice where the bar nuts normally tighten up to, then pull the chainbrake lever back in the direction the handle bar would be. You will feel a click and the lever will stay back and the brake band will be released. Then refitted cover to the saw. Regards Phil.

How do you rePlace the chain on the 455 rancher?

You take the chain cover off of the bar. It is two nuts. Take them off and the cover will come off. Slide the bar toward you and the chain will become slack. You can then slide off the chain from the sprocket. To put a new one on. You will need to turn the chain adjustment back all the way to the left. Then put the chain back over the sprocket, then onto the bar. Put the chain cover back on and tighten the chain back up. Then tighten the two nuts back to tight.

I had a very similar problem with a stihl 029 farm boss.I did everything you did except I took it to a shop to do the piston and ring replacement. When I got it back the first time it would run for about two mins. then die.I fought it for a couple of weeks then took it back and expressed my displeasure. Then checked it all over and replaced piston and ring again and it runs great. They told me they could not get the right compression with the first one and thought the groove for the ring was cut to deep.I hope this is of some help to you. Thank you.

How doe the band on my chain break attach to my chainsaw mine is broken and i do not know how to install it. or how to get the clutch off so i can replace it

It can be a little tricky!

If you are referring to chain break band

Tools you will need:
1/2 Socket (to remove bar nuts)
T25(torq) or you can use a Flathead screw driver but is a little harder.

Remove 2 bar nuts,Clutch cover, bar, chain, 2 screws on black bar handle right behind clutch cover(this is needed because there is a hidden screw there for the chain break) You will need a new chain brake (my guess is that it is part # 530071893 aprox $15) but you will want to verify that with your model number.

You should see the chain break assembly, 3 - T25 screws are visible after the clutch cover is removed(note sometimes you have to clean saw dust to make screw head visible) the other T25 screw is hidden under the black bar handle. Once you remove all 4 screws on the chain brake you will be able to pull it off.

Installing the new one is the tricky part because if it is set(or break is on) you will have a hard time putting it on.One of the easiest ways is to focus on it near the muffler you will see that a metal 3 pronged gear fits into the plastic part of the chain break handle.and if the band is too tight to fit over the clutch drum you will have to carefully reset it by applying pressure onto the area that has the 3 pronged gear and chain break handle make sure that the handle is pushed forward all the way while you apply pressure then slowly pull chain break handle back till you hear a "snap" this resets the chain brake spring and the band should now fit over the clutch drum. Now, proceed with putting back together 4 chain brake assembly screws,2 handle screws, and bar, chain, clutch cover, and 2 bar nuts.

Please note it is important that you apply quite a bit of pressure onto chain break area where metal (3 pronged) gear fits into handle while resetting or when you reset it the metal part can cut into and damage the plastic piece in the chain break handle.

You can see a breakdown here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Poulan-Parts/Chainsaw-Parts/Model-P4018WT/1324/1503220/P0506041/00002?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=P4018WT

Hope this helps!

Removal of inner primary cover

For the cover you may have to loosen your shifter linkage to be able to remove it from the bike depending on what model you have
As for the inner primary you'll have to take off the clutch the front & rear primary sprockets and chain. You can loosen the bolts to both sprockets, then loosen the chain tensioner.
Slide the front & rear sprocket & chain off with the clutch still attached. leave them together and set it aside as one big unit.
The inner primary has bolts with bent washer tabs. Bend the tabs flat so you can remove the bolts.
Thre is a lock ring around the transmission shaft that holds the inner primary on too. Remove that with lock-ring plier.
Depending on your model, you may have to remove the rotor/flywheel first before the inner primary comes off.
Don't for get to put a new engine o-ring back on the front hole of the inner primary when re-installing.

Bar thru the chain, pulled the side cover off with difficulty and now cannot get the side cover back on, appears the roundish bearing on the cover won't go over the round bearing that covers the chain...

I just had the problem of not being able to put the cover back on because the brake wwas engaged when I took it apart. What I did was use a #4 allen wrench and take the brake lever off being careful of the spring on the brake handle. There is a screw on both sides. I then put the cover loosely in a vise, and using the brake handle reset the brake to the correct position. It went back together easily. Probably took me ten minutes.

Husq 455 rancher chain saw. the chain locking spring in the cover is in the lock position and will not mount on the saw. how do i release the spring tension?

you should be able to release it with a flat screwdriver. you should see something that looks like a wheel where the chain brake locks to the brake handle when you put the cover back on. you should be able to twist that wheel and unlock it that way.
