JBL Grand touring 300.1. I have it bridged 1 12'' sub 2 ohm load,the + terminal is wierd. It's not connecting at times. The speaker wire has to be in the right position or it wont play. It works good when playing. I bought it used. Can I rebui;d the channel connecter? Any suggestions?

it seems rather redundant to bridge a mono amp. Unless the instruction manual states otherwise, i would assume that one speaker output is identical to the other (ran in parallel, like an A or B speaker, not like Left or Right), and you would present the amp with a two ohm load by wiring one speaker to each output. Bridging it may or may not work, but, again, it just seems redundant.

I'm not understanding what you mean by the "Sub doesn't even sound blown" if it doesn't play at all. One thing you can check is if you gently push in on the cone you shouldn't hear anything, if you hear a scratching noise and can feel resistance then you have a problem. If you have an OHM meter, you can check the voice coil impedance, it is a down and dirty way of checking to see if it is good or not. Measure all of the voice coils that you have and they should all read about the same, not necessarily exactly the same but pretty close. This test should tell you a lot. If it seems to test out fine there is something wrong else where. Let me know if you need more help.

ok i have the same amp and 1 2ohm dvc sub and was woundering the same thing but from futher research and askin sum xsperts. What i found out is that it is only one channel and even tho there are 2 (+) and 2(-) they actually connect inside the amp makein it one . so if u wanted to wire sumthing parralel u wouldnt have to hook wires from one coil to the other on the speaker , u can just hook it up to the amp. so basically both +'s and negatives on the amp are actually one within it so all the power if you only use one set of them and if u wanna add more subs its just easier to add to the amp by using the xtras .

Do you bridge a 850.4 four channel amp when it is 2 ohm stable and ur subs are wired up as series/ parallel and there 2 ohm dual voice coil speakers


If you wire 2 ohm dvc speaker parallel that would give you a 1 ohm load. If your amp is only 2 ohm stable that would not work. You would have to wire the speaker in series giving you a 4 ohm load. Then you can bridge the 4 channels into 2 with each speaker running at 4 ohms.
If you want to run a 2 ohm load use all 4 channels on amp and speakers. No need to bridge.
For 2 ohm DVC:
Parallel = connect both + and - together. = 1 ohm
Series = connect + from 1 channel to - from the other channel. = 4 ohm.

How to bridge a dual voice coil subwoofer, the sub has 4 speaker wire connections coming out the back how do i bridge it two one


You have two choices of how to wire this sub.

First, is an 8 ohm load. This is called a series set up. Go from the positive of the amp to the positive of one voice coil. Then go from the negative of that voice coild to the positive of the other voice coil. Then go from the negative of that voice coil to the negative of the amp.

Second is a 2 ohm load. This is called a parrallel set up. Go from the positive of the amp to the positive of both voice coils. Then go from the negative of the amp to both negatives of both voice coils.

Make sure your amp can handle a 2 ohm load. If you have two subs, you will need a 2 channel amp.

it depends on the amp your using and the impedence of the coils.(ohms) for general purposes lets say that you amp is designed to run 500 watts bridged mono into a 4 ohm load. Lets also say that your subs have dual 4 ohm coils on them. To achieve the 4 ohm load you would want to run the coils in series on each sub,meaning that one of the positives is going to connect to the negative on the sub the remaining + and - terminals are what you will connect your speaker wire to. you just turned your dual 4 ohm coil sub into a 8 ohm single coil speaker. Do the same thing to the other sub and now you have a pair of 8 ohm subs with a set of wires coming from each. Now parallel those sets of wires together( + and +) and (- and -) and run that to your amp. This will give you a 4 0hm load at the amp

If the amp is 1200 watts at 2 ohm stable you will want to set up the speakers as parrallel and bridge the amp. That means conncect the speakers with + to + and - to -. Look at the amp connections. Usually thereare connects that look like this:
+ -
+ - + -

If yours look like this use the diagram on top. You will use the + for the left ouput on the amp to the right - on the amp. This will allow you to use all the power from the amp. Be sure to lower the gain as to not pop the speakers or amp.

It has an A and B channel for spkrs and i have one spkr bridged. do i split the neg to side a and pos to side b or just use one of the channels?


Could you elaborate on how the speaker is bridged?

I think you want to hook up a single speaker to a stereo speaker output.

In this case, you would strap (bridge?) the right and left speaker terminals by running a short wire from A right negative to A left negative. Then strap A right positive to A left positive -- this will give you mono output on either of the right or left speaker terminals -- connect your speaker to either one of these.

Do you know what the ohm rating is for the speaker outs on the amp and also the speaker itself?

Bridging outputs on JBL BP300


Hello paulnkate,

The BP300.1 is a mono (1 channel) amp. You cannot bridge a mono amp. Bridging is a method of combining the outputs of 2 or more channels of a multichannel amp into a single mono load. On your amp you would connect a single sub to one of the +'s and one of the -'s (either one is OK, they are connected internally). The other pair of terminals is just for convenience, making it easier to connect, if you want to power 2 subs.

When i connect both subs(jbl gt 1041d) my amp goes to protection and when i ony hook one up it doesnt go to protection

It sounds like when you connect both subs, the impedance match is too low for the amp to handle. 2 4-ohm DVC subs with both the coils and subs wired in parallel will present a 1-ohm load which is too low for most amps.

The solution is to wire the voice coils in series, (connect a short jumper from one positive to the other negative on each sub). and then wire the remaining terminals to your amp. This will result in a 4-ohm load which most amps can handle.

Here's a "wiring wizard" which allows you to see the ohm loads of different wiring configurations.

Two terminals? bridging theory?


Hello again jm129852,

Having two power and ground terminals allows you to run two smaller wires instead of one big one. It's a convenience. No, you do not have to use them both. They are connected together inside. Yes, you should still use a single fused battery lead. Connect the big wire and fuse holder to the battery and to a distribution block and run the smaller wires from the output side of the distribution block.

When you connect the outputs of a two channel amp to two separate speakers, each speaker gets the power produced by it's channel only. If you are using only one speaker, and the amp is rated to operate bridged, then the speaker will receive the power from both channels, typically twice as much. You do need to be careful when using bridged mode because many amps will only operate safely at a higher impedance when bridged. For example, when operated with both channels connected to separate speakers (not bridged), it may be stable to 2 ohms. But when you connect both channels together (bridged), it is only stable to 4 ohms. Usually, the specifications will tell you the lowest impedance at which the amp should be operated. The specifications for the current RF Punch 500.2 are like this: 125 watts X 2 at 4 ohms; 250 watts X 2 at 2 ohms; 500 watts X 1 bridged at 4 ohms (4 ohm stable in bridged mode). You would NOT want to connect two 4 ohm subs in parallel to this amp in bridged mode. It would result in a final 2 ohm load and the amp would overheat and fail. One 4 ohm sub would be OK, and it would receive the full 500 watts as stated in the specifications. You could connect four 4 ohm subs, two each in parallel to each channel, and the 2 ohm loads on each channel would be OK. Or you could series two of them together for an 8 ohm load, do the same with the other two, and then parallel the two 8 ohm loads for a final impedance of 4 ohms and connect them into the bridged terminals. With DVC subs the connection possibilities get more complex. There are many good impedance calculators online that can help you determine the best wiring solution for various amp/sub combinations. I like the one above at the12v.com web site. Rockford-Fosgate also has one which allow you to select the a number of subs (up to 4), their voice coil configuration (single or dual), and the voice coil impedance. The RF calculator then shows you what configurations are available and what your final load impedance will be.

I have a jbl W15GTi MKII 15 inch and on the speaker it has to a a an b side and two wires no each side how do you hook it up


Your speaker has dual voice coils. You can hook it up so that it is 2 ohm or 4 ohm depending on wat the amp can handle. You can try hooking it up by matching the colors or like any other speaker.
