It coming on and after a couple of seconds cut off

Without a brand AND model number or a better description of the problem, any suggestions would be nothing more than a guess.

Unless you are prepared to repair the TV yourself, professionally performed repair, even simplest ones, will probably exceed the cost of a new LCD replacement set.

Due to X-ray and other safety concerns (equipment and/or people), CRT TVs constantly check the voltages and signals required to make a CRT work. A few seconds grace is allowed during start up but after that, any excessive high voltage (real or imagined) or loss of beam deflection circuits will cause the TV to turn off.

Please do the following:
1. Move the TV to a quiet and preferable totally dark room.
Wait until night if necessary.

2. Stand within an inch or closer to the TV screen.

3. Turn on the TV and look and listen for the following:

a. Whoosh sound and/or head hair attracted toward TV screen
Yes. High voltage activated and charged CRT screen.
No. High voltage failed to activate.

b. Hissing or normal sounds from the speaker(s) while set is on.
Low voltage circuits probably okay. Defective low voltage regulator can cause high voltage to exceed limits.

c. Entire screen briefly lit up or single bright spot at center of TV screen

High voltage worked for a moment then the TV shut off due to over voltage or current problems.

d. Brief bright line from top to bottom or single bright dot on TV screen

horizontal deflection circuits bad
vertical deflection circuits ok
TV shut off due to bad deflection/sweep circuit

e. Brief bright line from left to right on TV screen

horizontal deflection circuits bad
vertical deflection circuits ok
TV shut off due to bad deflection/sweep circuit

It would be helpful for you to perform the above "up close and personal turn the TV on test" and report what happened.

I turn the switch on all the settings and nothing blows out. Nissan maxima 1998...I just replaced the motor blower resistor

could be the blower motor it self. usually when resistor failes the blower will only work on HIGH or number 4 on your dash. when resistor burns out, all speeds other than 4 tend to stop working and blower works on high because its getting 12V/batter voltage applied to it, when on lets say speed number 3 the blower gets less voltage thus resulting is slower operation. put 12V/battery voltage to the blower motor directlly and see if it comes on. it should crank pretty fast so hold it tight when you are ready to put battery voltage to it.

Whistling sound

This tv whistling sound are causes by a high voltage currents flow from it is tv power supply board it self not functions properly anymore. That the board where the power a/c cord plug into it.Those high voltages tranformers have gaps in it solders joints and now it not letting high voltages currents flow smoothly anymore, that where the whistling sound came from.Tries take the tv aparts, tries to put some kind harden or supper glues to all those high voltages tranformers, might help or soften the whistling sound alot.If that did not help all or alot.Try website like Ebay.com to buy a whole new refurbish tv power supply board for the replacement.

There is sound but no picture. I called the Time Warner Cable.

Yes the problem is in the tv. If you have no onscreen display and good sound it is highly likely that there is no high voltage. If there is no high voltage the unit can either be in shut down mode or it could be shorted out in one of the power supplies. A test can be performed to determine if there is high voltage or not which will tell you which circuits to trouble shoot if you want to try repairing it yourself.

The quick test to determine if there is high voltage is simple. If you want to know how let me know and I can help. But in any case if there is no onscreen display and there is good sound, it is highly unlikely there are any quick fix options, as the problems are usually in the power supply, high voltage, convergence, or possibly even the light tubes. It would require an experienced technician to narrow it down and repair the problem.

KV-36XBR450, FD Trinitron WEGA

Hello maymet,

This sounds like the HV protection circuit is cutting off the TV due to a high current event in the set. This could be a problem in the High Voltage section of your TV (Horizontal output transistor, Integrated High Voltage Transformer, and y of the deflection components, and or the CRT in cases of shorts).

I would suggest that if you do not have a background in electronics, you should have an experienced TV technician troubleshoot and repair this problem.
This is due to the nature of the dangerous voltages that are present in the television.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

The set is shutting down to prevent further damage. There is a problem with the high voltage circuit. The most common failure part is the horizontal output transistor. Figure on $20 or so for parts plus the local labor rate to get the total repair cost.

Mitsubishi WS-55819 power issue

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB (NOT SHOWN IN THE SCHEMATIC). 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. 3. SELF-DIAGNOSIS INDICATES SHORT PROTECT. CHECK FOR A SHORTED IC4B01 PART # 270P261020 (VERTICAL OUTPUT) LOADING 24-VOLT SUPPLY LINE. LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB
