I was given a sega dreamcast everything works but when it says install disc i put the disc on the wheel close the door and the cd wont stay on the wheel

If I recall the Sega Dreamcast wheel is a clasp type wheel. You need to push the disk down onto the wheel and you will hear it secure itself onto the wheel. Then close the wheel and you should be good to go. Don't just place it on the wheel... push it down until you here that little clicking sound and it should stay on the wheel.

try this youtube guide here, during the video the person will talk about a black plastic leave that gets pushed back by the dreamcast lid. if that lever is not being pushed back the drive will not spin. you can try the suggestion in the guide also.

Hope this helps,

Your Dreamcast sounds like it's overheating.

I had the same thing, and the cooling fan was worn out and needed to be replaced. I did this, and now it works like a charm.

Freezing problem with Games

The Dreamcast is no longer supported because it was to easy to copy the games, but there are still a loyal few who keep the scene alive. I have no idea how much you want to put into fixing the problem, but the only way to fix your problem is flashing the Dreamcast BIOS.

Modification 101:

The Dreamcast is basically a computer; with the right programming you can do anything; and having a Dreamcast Keyboard is nice.

Sega Dreamcast console problem

First off, NEVER store a game console on top of a subwoofer. It is like a giant magnet, and electronic devices do not handle magnetics. I don't think i've ever heard of a VGA box, Sega brand or not, killing a console. Millions use aftermarket AV cables and adaptors on all consoles without problem. I think it likely died from being on top of the sub. Relocate it and you should be fine. Running it for a few hours isnt likely either unless you had the vents entirely blocked.
To the guest who's drive isnt spinning, I would say your drive motor has burnt out. This doesn't indicate a defect in Dreamcasts, per se, it just means bad luck or excessive dust which killed it. Either buy a different Dreamcast or see if you can find a drive replacement.
Hope this helps.

Dreamcast Loading problem

you can get disks relayered at game stores.
there was a long period where this happened to me.
some games worked for a while, some didnt.
its the dreamcast.
you might wanna get anew power cable or just clear out the dust because that is the main problem with the dreamcast.
try playing with the console upside down
it sounds crazy but it worked for me.

The Disc drive has a connector on the bottom that has to mate up with the opposite gender connector on the top of the motherboard. you have to press the Drive down first then put the screws in.

Sega Dreamcast Disk-reading piece

cripes I think you may have mixed your screws up?
1 it sounds like you are using a self tapping screw (it has a greater distance between each layer) rather than the tight screws which are for fitting the circuits together.
2 I believe there are three screw holes for the disc reading part of the dreamcast and you really only need two to keep the disc player in place, so also try another hole.
3 and one last thing to check you haven't put a screw underneath the board already?
