Question about HP LaserJet 1012 Printer
I found a reset sequence that sort of worked, and then it started again. We have powered on and off. It seems after it is on for a period of time it decides to reprint the test page.

I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy until I did this. Please follow exactly and IN ORDER.
1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again
2. Let the printer print the test page.
3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable.
4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned.
5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady.
6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay!
(You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

SOURCE: The printer apear to be dead!
Buttons and lights on the printer
Two buttons and three lights are located on the front of an HP Deskjet printer.
All lights are off. The printer is off (asleep).
Press the POWER button to turn the printer on.
The printer should turn on automatically when a print job is sent to it.
The POWER (top) light is on. The printer is idle.
The printer is ready to print a document.
The POWER (top) light is blinking. The printer is busy printing.
Allow enough time to print. When a document has many fonts or graphics or uses complex color such as a color photo, it takes longer to begin printing.
The PRINT CARTRIDGE (bottom) light is blinking. Possible causes:
If the print cartridges are compatible and correctly installed, they may be defective. Try replacing the print cartridges.
If none of the above suggestions fix the problem, and, if the error message still occurs, it may be a hardware failure. Call the HP Customer Support Center.
