Ps2 does not read 1 specific disc-reads all other games exept Grand Turismo 4

your cd might be broken or get a new one or get it refurbished at gamestop.

1. try reconfigure memory card save block (not the game save) I play 5 game profiles & cards used with Grand Turismo 3&4 (2 cards auto-start & 3 cards don't! = 4 sony & 1 mad cats)
   
2. CLEAN YOUR LENS! My SCPH-30001 PS2 IS 10years Old & I clean Both sides of my Lens VERY CAREFULLY ! every 2yrs. & it still works great!
   

Your reading lens is probably weak or its dirty....first you should clean your PS2 lens.Here is a video that will help you in cleaning your PS2 lens....

Although its about plying DVD's but you can play heavy games like Grand Turismo 4 , God of war etc too by following the same procedure....!

Games like God of War 2, Grand Turismo 4 etc take time to load and some times these games are not loaded by consoles with weak lenses or dirty lens.You should consider cleaning your lens.Cleaning lens might solve your problem plus here is a trick for you to play such heavy games(Although its about playing DVDs on PS2 but you can play your game by following this tip the same way.)

If your PS2 works fine with most of the games and won’t play a few..Then you should try this trick to play them too on your PS2:

1. Turn on your PS2 without inserting any disc.
2. Menu screen will appear like:
3. Press the (triangle) Button to enter Version Information Menu that looks like
4. Highlight the Play Station Driver as above and again press (triangle).
5. New screen will appear like
6. Highlight the Disc Speed as above and press X button,to enter Disc Speed Menu
7. And set it from Standard to "Fast".
8. After you set Disc Speed to Fast, Press and Hold Reset Button to turn off your console.
9. Then again Press and Hold Reset Button till the Blue Light turns on.
10. Remove the Reset Button and Press it again.

Be patient and wait till the game loads itself. If your lens is in good condition then it will play game in first go else try again till it PLAY your game. If still your Grand Turismo 4 DVD wont work then you must clean your PS2 lens.Watch following video to learn about cleaning lens:

I've encountered similar problem with my PS2. I really can't play the disc that I bought. There might be some burning problem that difficult to read by your PS2. What I did I've tried to copy it and burn in to a better DVD disc and it works. Try it.

This can sometimes be caused by the actual PS2 media. PS2 discs usually have either a silver or blue bottom. Silver is DVD media and Blue is CD media. Sometimes the laser mechanism gets a little wonky and can't read one type or another. Typically, older games had the blue discs (Kinetica and Gran Turismo are some of the oldest games on the system) I would check the color of your existing games and see if that is an issue. Another possible idea is that you just got a bad disc, it doesn't happen very often but it does pop up from time to time.
