Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell.

The oil capacity of an XR250R / L is 1.3 litres if you are only changing oil. If you are changing oil and filter you need 1.4 litres. The oil type should be API grade SF or SG multi-grade oil for motorcycles. Viscosity 10W-40 as standard but 10W-30 ,20W-40 or 20W-50 are acceptable dependent on the temperatures where you live, your supplier can advise on this.
yes, clean out the carb if you add gas directly to the carb intake, and it runs for a few seconds and shuts off, then you know you have a gas supply problem at the carburetor.
It does sound like its getting to much fuel, or the lack of air. Air filter ok? If it is you might need to have a compression check done to see how the piston rings are.
with regard to your question, YES, you may use an OEM rear shock from an 02 XR 650f to your 1992 XR600. Both models have the same link type ro it should fit perfectly.note the placing though, you may need larger bushing to fit the shocks.
hope this helps. if you have other questions, please let me know.
hello
the reccomended oil from honda is their GN4. this is a motorcycle blend 10w40. so other 10w40 motorcycle blend oils will work as well. i would stick with hondas oil. but other companies like bel-ray are a good alternative as well.
with an oil and filter change you are looking at approx. 2 us quarts of oil. manual states 2.06 quarts. so may take either a touch more or a touch less.
hope this is helpful. thank you.
