all...you should first check to make sure the outlet you're using is good. Really. Next, check internal fuse and thermosafety in the unit. They are both found inside the button area. The safety is about the size of a dime and 3/8 inch thick with two wires. Sometimes they open. They should be continuous. Not it? Let me know.

SOURCE: GE Above the Cooktop Oven Microwave JVM1533 Turn table does not move

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

In this case, I would suspect the primary interlock door switch.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

There should also be a a very helpful "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel. It's very helpful when troubleshooting.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

the most likley problem is the magnetron has gone bad.but there are a couple of thermal sensor in the cabinet that need to be checked. one of those could be bad as well.

I have a GE profile PEM31SM3SS that heats intermittently. This is the second time it has stopped heating but in the past has started to work again sometimes months later. Is there any fix I can do short of...

do this test and fix it. God bless you

  1. Check the power diodeThis electronic component is responsible for transmitting current in one direction. If the diode becomes defective it will cause your microwave to not heat. Test the diode and replace it if necessary.
  2. High voltage capacitorResponsible for storing electricity, this part is a key component in any microwave. Remove, discharge, and test the capacitor to determine if it requires replacement.
  3. Damaged magnetronResponsible for generating waves and producing heat. When your microwave is no longer heating properly, replacement will be required.
  4. Thermal CutoffsExamine the thermal cutoffs on both the magnetron and the oven itself. Take off one of the leads and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If you get a result other than zero, replace the thermal cutoffs.

Smoking and electrical smell

OOPS!
Sounds bad!
Remove the power plug & remove the lid!
Remember microwaves are deadly! Never touch! use your eyes only!
Put a 1/2 cup of water in & start. Look if you can see where the smoke comes from. If there is some arching somehhere, you may unplug it & leave it for 1/2 an hour to get rid of lethal high voltages. There may be carbon black at the arching site. You may clean it and if you see any paint damage, cover it with a piece of duck tape. Then try again.
If the smoke comes from the transformer, a square heavy iron box, dump the microvawe.
They are cheaper than the combined cost of the transformer & the labour!

I have no power for my GE profile microwave. The model # is PEM31SM3SS. The outlet is good.

Dead appliance, power on wall outlet.

YOUR SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT!

Attempt this only if you are competent.

If your appliance has absolutely no functions at all, remove it from the mains supply, remove the case and see where the mains lead goes in to the appliance and follow the cable until you find the main fuse.
ONLY USE THE SAME TYPE AND RATING OF FUSE TO REPLACE IT.
The usual cause of this fuse failure is the door switches are contaminated or sticking. Check the door switches before putting power back on to the appliance.
Hope this helps.

My 4 year old daughter lent against the microwave and has locked the entire key pad. How can I unlock please?

Remove the power plug and keep aside for some time maybe an hour. Plug it back again and it must reset and work.
Set your timer . If not the control unit has an error , leave it off overnight and try.

New maytag power shuts off and comes back in half hour

Depending on the model you may need a 15 or even up to a 20 amp circuit to operate the microwave. Check the installation instructions to be sure. What is most likely happening is the circuit in your home is not powerful enough to run the load of the microwave oven. If this is the case it could be dangerous. I would strongly recommend you have an expert examine the house wiring prior to starting the unit again.

I have the 63252 model....When the microwave is turned on to cook, it runs, there is no heat.... does this microwave have fuses of any kind....

Your oven may have separate fuses for the magnetron and the electronics so I suggest you pull the plug, remove the back and look for an accessible fuse holder. Allow the unit to stand unplugged for at least several hours before removing the back panel as there are components inside that can carry a nasty charge for hours.
