I have the 9500 Memory craft sewing on tricot and the bottom side looks beautiful...top side is horrible...

Generally, when sewing machine issues appear on the top of the fabric, it is an indication of a problem with the bobbin/bobbin thread. Issues on the bottom of the fabric are generally top-thread related. AVOID using old or bargain bin thread. Try changing bobbins. Is it the correct bobbin? Make sure the thread is wound smoothly on the bobbin and no threads protrude outside the bobbin edge. Check that the bobbin is installed turning the correct direction and the bobbin case is threaded correctly. Also, the bobbin tension may need to be adjusted (probably a last option before having it serviced). If adjusting the bobbin tension, be sure to mark the tension screw setting BEFORE changing anything and then adjust only in 1/8-1/4 turn increments. A slight possibility is that the bobbin case is old and needs to be replaced.

My Bernina 1630 A straight pin was struck by the needle and went into the needle hole. I changed the needle, but the bobbin tension is loose. Is there an adjustment for bobbin tension?

There is. It's the little screw on the side of the bobbin case. Be sure to mark its position BEFORE making any changes and turn it only 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn per adjustment.

However, if the pin damaged the bobbin case or anything else, that may need to be repaired or replaced. Sometimes, just biting the bullet and purchasing a brand new bobbin case eliminates a lot of frustration--not that expensive. Besides, I have several bobbin cases on hand because I change thread weights between quilting and regular garment sewing and it is just easier to have a bobbin case set up specifically for one use--eliminates the need to make constant adjustments to the bobbin tension between projects.

Be sure you've changed out the old needle. It could also be an easier fix by just removing all the thread and rethreading the machine again--always raise the presser foot when threading the top thread.

Do I need to adjust bobbin tension when changing stiches

Usually one does not change bobbin tension. Adjusting the tension on the needle thread is all that is required.

It is sometimes necessary to change the bobbin tension but only when changing to an extremely fine, slick thread or to a very heavy, rough thread.

I own a "Lena" machine

Hello

Make sure your feeddogs are up. That is the little jagged looking plate under the pressure foot. There should be a setting on your machine that will move it up and down.

If they are up then the bobbin is not in correctly. If it is a normal round bobbin that fits in a bobbin case, hold the bobbin in front of you so that the thread end is on top and the thread is going away from you, and slide it into the bobbin case. Feed the thread through the right openings in the bobbin case. When you pull the thread end the bobbin should turn clockwise.

Never hand-wind bobbins. Instead, use the accompanying bobbin winder which is attached to most machines, bobbin casings must be oiled regularly to prevent problems with the bobbin turning properly. The bobbin, when inserted properly into the bobbin casing, should spin counter-clockwise when thread is pulled.

Check the way your machine is threaded. Completely un-thread your sewing machine and re-thread it. Remember to always thread your machine with the presser foot up.

Check the bobbin and be sure the bobbin is threaded correctly and that the bobbin case is correctly threaded. Be sure the bobbin is in the bobbin case in the correct direction.

Always watch for bobbin wear, especially on the plastic type of bobbins. If the edges of the plastic are showing abrasions, the size of the bobbin has changed and may be the culprit. Although the size change is minute, it allows the bobbin to wobble in the case and changes the tension.

Singer 57817 thread tension problem

Hello,

If you have Increased the upper thread tension on your machine, try these solutions.

* Decrease your bobbin tension if your sewing machine allows you to adjust it. Consult your manual.

* Re-thread your bobbin, It may be threaded incorrectly.

* Reinsert your bobbin, It may be inserted incorrectly.

* Change your thread. If your upper thread and bobbin threads are different types, try using the same thread for both.

I hope this helps.
