Remove downloads how to delete a download someone has put on my computer that is a threat. I was able to delete these files after they appeared on my downloads by themselves (probably by a hacker). My computer alerted me to it. I did not open the 3 files, but has my computer been compromised and infected. I went to control panel and then brought up files and to the left of this was downloads which I looked at then under organize, I found a delete button and it went to the recycle bin and the I deleted that. Should I change all my passwords.

Go to the control panel -- programs and see if there is any lines pertaining to the downloads
if so high light and un-install each line until they are all clear
next get your anti virus to open and do a full scan on the computer
it may take a long time ( up to 6 hours ) but it will detect and remove any problem software that can cause you problems

so long as the file has not been overwritten there are many utilties available free that will accomplish this. I have not made this mistake in awhile so i cannot tell you the best current program, but I have used this one before
http://ntfsundelete.com/ and it is quite nice. Keep in mind if you have continued to use the drive and the space that file occupied has since been overwritten you will not be able to recover it.

SOURCE: Hi, I just received a problem from the recycle

Interesting problem. I'd try this: Open control panel and open Folder Options. Click the View tab and check the box to "Show hidden files and folders". say ok to that and close out back to the desktop. Now look in the recycle bin to see if there are those 2 files in there and try to delete them manually. Also go to www.download.com and download and install CCleaner (Freeware). Run CCleaner and see if it is able to delete those files. If not, then see if you can right click on those 2 items and choose Restore. Once you have done that I would recommend you do a full virus scan on the pc just in case and also run the ccleaner once again. Hope this helps.

I recommend that you install a good anti - Virus application and scan your computer.

For the time being you can use Malwarebytes. It works good for these Trojans. Please install it and then scan the computer. It would be better if you scan the computer in safe mode.

    • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  • Click Scan
  • wait for the virus definitions to be downloaded
  • Wait for the scan to finish
When the scan is complete
  • If no threats were found
    • put a checkmark in "Uninstall application on close"
    • close program
    • report to me that nothing was found
  • If threats were found
    • click on "list of threats found"
    • click on "export to text file" and save it as ESET SCAN and save to the desktop
    • Click on back
    • put a checkmark in "Uninstall application on close"
    • click on finish
    • close program

Delete knctr


Down on the right corner of your desktop near the digital clock should be a drop-down arrow. Click it and you'll see the 'knctr icon'. Click the icon and then click 'Shutdown'. Then go to your control panel and 'Uninstall' that program.
Restart computer.

If that doesnt take care of it- download Superantispyware, install it, and run a scan. remove any found threats. restart computer. Now it should be gone for good.

Download it,install it, run it. Perform Quick Scan. Once scan is complete, click Show results-check all threats found and click Remove Threats.

The re-installation of windows is however recommended, but you can try with follwing procedure to remove Think point Virus:-
1. Restart your computer in SafeMode - After Power-On the computer, just before Windows start, press F8 - From the selections, Select SafeMode
2. End ThinkPoint Process - Press Ctrl+Alt+Del from the keyboard to open Task Manager - Go to process Tab - Select 'hotfix.exe' and click on End Process - Close Task Manager
3. Remove Registry entries that the threat added. You MUST BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST. - Click Start > Run - Type in the field, regedit - Navigate and look for the registry entries mentioned above and delete if necessary
4. Delete malicious files that the threat added: - Base on the given location above, browse and delete the file - If no location is given, click Start>Search> and search for the files. - If cannot be deleted, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager, see if the file is running in the process. If it is, select the file and click End Process. Perform file delete again.
5. Scan computer with Antivirus Program - Update antivirus program - Scan computer and delete all detected threats.

You can remove it:

Start Taskmanager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del
From Prosesse tab, select PAV.EXE and click End Prosess.

Next find and delete following files:
pav.exe
PersonalAntivirus.exe
PersonalAntivirus.lnk
Uninstall Personal Antivirus.lnk

After that I you are familiar with Registy Editor, find and delete
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “Personal Antivirus

I recommend cleaning your temporary files. To do this, in internet explorer, click tools, internet options. from there, you want to delete all your temporary internet files.

How do i get rid of a W32.SillyFDC virus


The following instructions pertain to all current and recent Symantec antivirus products, including the Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus product lines.
  1. Disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP).
  2. Update the virus definitions.
  3. Run a full system scan.
  4. Delete any values added to the registry.

For specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

1. To disable System Restore (Windows Me/XP)
If you are running Windows Me or Windows XP, we recommend that you temporarily turn off System Restore. Windows Me/XP uses this feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file on your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations.

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

For instructions on how to turn off System Restore, read your Windows documentation, or one of the following articles:

Note: When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed, reenable System Restore by following the instructions in the aforementioned documents.

For additional information, and an alternative to disabling Windows Me System Restore, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: Antivirus Tools Cannot Clean Infected Files in the _Restore Folder (Article ID: Q263455).

2. To update the virus definitions
Symantec Security Response fully tests all the virus definitions for quality assurance before they are posted to our servers. There are two ways to obtain the most recent virus definitions:
  • Running LiveUpdate, which is the easiest way to obtain virus definitions.

    If you use Norton AntiVirus 2006, Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 10.0, or newer products, LiveUpdate definitions are updated daily. These products include newer technology.

    If you use Norton AntiVirus 2005, Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0, or earlier products, LiveUpdate definitions are updated weekly. The exception is major outbreaks, when definitions are updated more often.


  • Downloading the definitions using the Intelligent Updater: The Intelligent Updater virus definitions are posted daily. You should download the definitions from the Symantec Security Response Web site and manually install them.

The latest Intelligent Updater virus definitions can be obtained here: Intelligent Updater virus definitions. For detailed instructions read the document: How to update virus definition files using the Intelligent Updater.

3. To run a full system scan
  1. Start your Symantec antivirus program and make sure that it is configured to scan all the files.

    For Norton AntiVirus consumer products: Read the document: How to configure Norton AntiVirus to scan all files.

    For Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise products: Read the document: How to verify that a Symantec Corporate antivirus product is set to scan all files.


  2. Run a full system scan.
  3. If any files are detected, follow the instructions displayed by your antivirus program.
  4. Delete the autorun.inf file from writeable removable devices, if necessary.
Important: If you are unable to start your Symantec antivirus product or the product reports that it cannot delete a detected file, you may need to stop the risk from running in order to remove it. To do this, run the scan in Safe mode. For instructions, read the document, How to start the computer in Safe Mode. Once you have restarted in Safe mode, run the scan again.


After the files are deleted, restart the computer in Normal mode and proceed with the next section.

Warning messages may be displayed when the computer is restarted, since the threat may not be fully removed at this point. You can ignore these messages and click OK. These messages will not appear when the computer is restarted after the removal instructions have been fully completed. The messages displayed may be similar to the following:

Title: [FILE PATH]
Message body: Windows cannot find [FILE NAME]. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

4. To delete the value from the registry
Important: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified subkeys only. For instructions refer to the document: How to make a backup of the Windows registry.
  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. Type regedit
  3. Click OK.

    Note: If the registry editor fails to open the threat may have modified the registry to prevent access to the registry editor. Security Response has developed a tool to resolve this problem. Download and run this tool, and then continue with the removal.

  4. Navigate to the following registry subkeys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

  5. In the right pane, delete any values associated with the worm.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially and if I may remark, a very challenging and time consuming virus cleanup. Some that you could try:
  • determine what virus files/names are involved. Some would be appearing in "msconfig" startup;
  • some would not allowed to be deleted, try delete in Safe Mode;
  • in some instances, some services would have to be stopped using Ctrl-Alt-Del;
  • download, install and run RRT (remove restriction tool);
  • download, install and run Ad-Aware.

you will need an anti virus software or spyware remover software. there is alot of it that can be downloaded from the net. just use your search engine. or if you want, just download a new different browser like mozilla and use that as your default browser, but still, the best way is spyware remover.

2. To remove all the entries that the risk added to the hosts file

Navigate to the following location:


Windows 95/98/Me:
%Windir%
Windows NT/2000/XP:
%Windir%\System32\drivers\etc

Notes:
The location of the hosts file may vary and some computers may not have this file. There may also be multiple copies of this file in different locations. If the file is not located in these folders, search your disk drives for the hosts file, and then complete the following steps for each instance found.
%Windir% is a variable that refers to the Windows installation folder. By default, this is C:\Windows (Windows 95/98/Me/XP) or C:\Winnt (Windows NT/2000).


Double-click the hosts file.
If necessary, deselect the "Always use this program to open this program" check box.
Scroll through the list of programs and double-click Notepad.
When the file opens, delete all the entries added by the risk. (See the Technical Details section for a complete list of entries.)
Close Notepad and save your changes when prompted.


3. To update the virus definitions
Symantec Security Response fully tests all the virus definitions for quality assurance before they are posted to our servers. There are two ways to obtain the most recent virus definitions:
Running LiveUpdate, which is the easiest way to obtain virus definitions: These virus definitions are posted to the LiveUpdate servers once each week (usually on Wednesdays), unless there is a major virus outbreak. To determine whether definitions for this threat are available by LiveUpdate, refer to Virus Definitions (LiveUpdate).

Malware threats


What your seeing is called Adware, they are trying to make you think you are infected to buy their software to remove it.

What you need to do:
Go to www.ewido.com a reseller of AVG, download the software and run a FULL scan once complete delete the threats its finds.
