nestor, on the posted model, you want to drop the lower front panel. Take a puddy knife and push in on the clips on each side and it will pull off. Kill the power to the dryer. On the right you will see the heater housing. The housing will have a front deflector. You can remove that deflector by removing the screw on the bottom or simply just bend it down out of the way. Remove the 2 wires on the left that attach to the element itself. On the left side of the housing there will be a quarter inch screw that holds the element in place. Use a small socket set to get it off. Now the element will pull right out of the housing. Sometimes they are difficult to pull out but it will come out. Did you ohm out that element to make sure that was the culprit? Catriver.

It was very easy to do on my dryer. Kenmore 80. Removed 8-10 screws. Ordered a new element on Thursday afternoon from

First, begin by unplugging the dryer and verifying the voltage at the wall receptacle. You should read 220-240VAC across the two Hot terminals (left and right slots). If the voltage is incorrect, check to make sure you don't have a breaker tripped. Some homes use 2 separate 120VAC breakers to provide power to the receptacle vice using one 240VAC breaker.

If the voltage IS correct, leave the dryer unplugged and remove the cover plate on the terminal block in the back of the dryer (this is where the power cord is installed). Plug the dryer back in and take a voltage reading across the two hot (RED and BLACK) wires at the terminal block. You should read 220-240VAC. If the voltage is good, you have an internal heating problem. If the voltage is bad at the terminal block, but good at the receptacle, you have a bad power cord.

The reason a dryer will still run if the input voltage is incorrect, is because the drive motor only uses a portion of the 220 service. The motor runs off 110-120VAC, while the heating circuits require 220-240VAC. So, if you are missing 1/2 your input voltage due to a tripped breaker or bad power cord, your dryer will exhibit these symptoms.

If you determine the problem to be internal, the heating circuits will either be located in the rear of the washer on the right hand, or under the dryer drum on the right hand side. Usually, an easy way to determine is by the location of the lint screen filter. If the filter is on top of the dryer, the heating circuits are in the back of the dryer. If the lint screen is in the door, the heating circuits are located under the dryer drum. All Kenmore dryers are not constructed the the same. Regardles of location, the Heating Element is located inside the heater box. The Thermal Cut-Out (TCO) will be located on the outside of the heater box on the end opposite the heating element terminals. The Hi-Limit Thermostat will be located adjacent to the heating element terminals. If either the TCO or Hi-Limit Thermostat are determined to be bad, replace both components at the same time. That is why these components are commonly sold as a set. Failure to do so may result in premature failure of any parts you replace. Electrolux Dryer quit and has a code E 63


Mark, the heating element is underneath the drum, on the left (as facing the front of the unit).

Per the Dryer Tech Data Sheet:
E63 Error Code indicates: [Fault] Heater to Earth Ground [Possible Fault Conditions] Heating element or wiring defective [Possible Solutions] Check heater coils and connections for short circuits to the cabinet. Replace heater and/or wiring and retest.

To open the cabinet is quite difficult, speaking as a non-professional. There may be easier methods than what I used, but I was successful. First I removed all the screws from the back (there are many). This got the top and the back panels removed. The left side (where I could see the heating element was) gave me considerable trouble until I realized I had to remove the door trim to reveal one last screw. Finally got the side off and swapped out the heater. Much much vacuuming for me. I am still trying to figure out how to clean out the bottom of the duct (underneath lint filter), but that's another post.

Also, just in case you don't have the manual and/or need to order parts, I will include a link.

For some reason, the Sears Parts Direct website lists the dryer as a Gas dryer, which it obviously isn't, as the part in question is very clearly an electric heating element. Hope this helps.

Check high limit thermostat continuity. If ok ,Check for voltage at thermostat side of the heater element.If voltage present timer ok.Most likely centifugal switch at motor.Motor has to be running for element to work.

It's all fixable!

The problem when the dryer runs but doesn't heat is usually caused by a failed high-limit thermostat and a blown thermal cut-off both located on the heater housing. Verify this by bypassing both parts for troubleshooting purposes then running the dryer.

Disconnect power then remove the screws attaching the bottom front panel to the bottom flange of the cabinet. Slide the panel down and off the cabinet to access the heater housing.

Remove the hex-head screw from the heater shield and remove the shield.

Disconnect the red wire from the thermal cut-off and the red/white stripe wire from the heater. Connect the red wire disconnected from the thermal cut-off to the heater terminal where the red/white stripe wire is disconnected from.

Reconnect power then start the dryer. The problem is indeed with the two bypassed components if the dryer heats up. Replace both the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat and it should solve the heating problem. Do not use the dryer with those parts bypassed due to high risk of fire hazards. Let us know should you need further advice.

No heat, but dryer turns.


There are three common causes of a dryer not heating. First is a busted heating element. Second, the thermal cut-off has blown. Third, the high limit thermostat is not working.

Disconnect power to the machine and remove the screws at the bottom of the lower front access panel (toe panel) holding it in place. Pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You now have access to the heating circuit.

Remove the heater shield by removing its mounting screw and pulling it off the heater housing.

The heater terminal block is located at the left opening of the heater housing. Disconnect the wire from one of the heater terminals and measure the resistance of the heating element using an ohmmeter set to X1. The resistance should read 7.8 -11.8 ohms. Replace the heating element if the resistance reads open.

Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the heating element and remove the screw securing it to the heater housing. Slide the busted heating element out of the housing and install the new heating element. Secure it with the screw and put the terminal block in place. Connect the heater wires and reinstall the heater shield.

Slide the lower front access panel up into the cabinet and secure it with the screws.

remove the back of dryer,unplug,look to the right and you will see the heater box,the lower half is the heating coil,remove the 2 wires and 2 screws and pull the heater off,also you need to check the heater box fuse located on the upper left side fg heater box-mike

Kenmore 80 Series No Heat


The heater gets one leg of power through the timer and one leg through the motor terminal.Make sure power is leaving the timer and terminating at the heater. Check the switch on the motor for continuity for the other leg of power.(The motor must be running to check this switch).

My Kenmore dryer is not heating. Need to check heating element.


Hi, You need to remove the front lower panel. There you will find the element on the right side under the drum. If the element checks out ok, then you need to test al the thermostats and the safety fuse. With he dryer unplugged, check all these parts for continuity. If any of them show no continuity,replace it. If I can assist you further, please let me know.

1 Check for 220 Volt at the heater entrance to the heater box (accessible from picking up the top on most dryer models).
If you have 220v there the heater element is out.
2 If you don't have 220v on the terminals of the heater the problem is in the controls.
The fuse link, the timer contacts, the centrifugal switch on the motor, and the heater safety thermostat and operating thermostat(s), are all suspect and have to be eliminated 1 by 1.

With any luck all you need is a new element. Clean the duct out while replacing the heater if so because the main thing that causes heater element burn out is low air flow. A kinked Dryer vent hose, lint, and plugged up fan circulator on the motor, or if yours has little holes in the inside cabinet where the air is taken to be heated and recirculated, these can get clogged with lint also and cause a problem are the 4 main causes of low air flow..

Heating element


The model number you provided suggests that the lint screen is on top of the dryer, right? If so, the heating element can be accessed from behind the dryer by removing the rear panel. Of course, you should know this already since you stated you've already replaced the thermostat and fuse. The heating element is located on the right-hand side as you are looking at the dryer from the rear. There are TWO components on the heater housing. One is the high limit thermostat, one is a thermal cut-out. Are these the components you mentioned replacing? BOTH should read a short (0 ohms) when measuring resistance with the dryer turned off. If you haven't replaced both of them, double check to see if they are both good. The high limit thermostat will be located closest to the ceramic heater connection. The thermal cut-out will be mounted to the heater box. Perform a resistance check of the heating element as well. Measure across the leads of the heating element at the ceramic terminal connection. It should read between 8 - 13 ohms if good. If your readings prove that the heater is bad, it can be removed by using a 5/16" hex drive. The heating element should slide out the bottom of the heater box housing. Sometimes removing the heater box, and then removing the heating element is easier.

Your dryer is also equipped with an electronic cycle control board under the control panel that goes bad from time to time. This also may affect the dryer heating circuits. Inspect the small circuit board for any obvious signs of burned components.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If I'm wrong about your dryer configuration, please post back with comments, so I can give you proper instructions.

CAUTION: Make sure you UNPLUG the dryer prior to making any resistance checks. Dangerous voltages are still present with the dryer turned off.
