Failed inspection, (at a Toyota dealer) was told rear brakes need adjusting. How do I adjust and are they not self adjusting??

To adjust the rear brakes you need to turn the adjusting screw, which is a piece between the brake shoes that has indents around it to help you when adjusting. You need to turn the adjuster enough so that with the drum, it will spin but is firm. Let me know if you need more direction.

Can i adjust e brake @ handle, or do i need to pull rotors and off to do it?

They should be self adjusting. Why are you trying to adjust them...too tight ? Too loose ? may just need new pads as the e-brake uses diff brakes than the hydraulic system brakes. Hope this helps !

My 2007 Honda accord hand brake lever is already high, that tells me it need to be adjust. I look under the car tried to find where to addjust it, it may be inside the rear wheel, can you help me?

Your brakes need to be adjusted first. Then worry about the handbrake.Don't get this wrong or it could be very bad.Get the brakes done, adjust the h/brake.
Cars can go but they MUST stop.Dont shortcut on the brakes.
H/brake adjustment is usually beside the h/brake lever
Hope this helps

My brakes are not braking correctly, I need to know where to adjust

Hello eddher:

The Following is a General Instruction File I Made for this Problem. Readjust the Brake Rods to the Original Positions. Now to Adjust the Brake Pads. Tighten the Center Adjusting Nut Until SNUG. Loosen the Adjuster Nut 1/8 Turn and Try the Brakes. If Braking is Not to your Satisfaction, then Adjust the Center Adjusting Nut on the Disc Brake Assembly Slightly (1/8" at a time) Until the Proper Braking is Achieved.
The Brake Assembly is on the Left Side of you Hydro Transaxle.
You can View the Husqvarna Model List at this Site Addy, and Click on the Husqvarna Logo. Now Enter the Model Numbers GTH 2448 T in the Search Box on the Left and Click Go. Now Select the Model of the Equipment you Wish to View. The GTH 2448 T 917.279260 has a Hydro transaxle Breakdown.
Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance.
Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Be Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck

Brake drums

the brake shoes are likely stuck in the grooves worn into the drum. You need to back off the brake shoe adjusting wheel to loosen the brake shoes.
Also, the face of the drum usually has a couple of threaded holes you can screw bolts into to help pull the drums toward you.

First, hit all the way around the brake drum with a big hammer to loosen the drum from the center hub.
Then, istall the screws to help pull the drum.

to back off the adjuster with a screwdriver:

  1. NOTE: If the brake drum will not come off, follow these steps.
  2. Loosen the brake shoe adjusting screw nut (2047).
  3. Using a screwdriver, move the brake shoe adjusting lever (2A176) off the brake adjuster screw (2041).
  4. NOTE: Move the adjustment tool handle downward to loosen the brake shoe adjusting screw nut.
Use the Brake Adjustment Tool to loosen the brake shoe adjusting screw nut.
please give a good rating if this helps.

Rear brakes need ajustment on Buick Lesabre

I don't know if this works on a Buick but I have had two cars that the auto adjusters worked when you used the parking brake, I rarely use the parking brake so I got in the habit of working the parking brake 20 times or so at oil change time.
