Singer xl5000 the speed is stuck on slow

The lever to change the speed on my machine won't move and the speed is stuck on slow. Can this be overrided or did something possibly break on the inside of my machine?

Is your bobbin case holding in place right? See if you can jiggle it back and forth to see if it moves. If it does move, it may have unattached itself in it's inner-casing.

My bobbin case would just go back and forth in the casing. Make sure that your needle plate is inserted right, as it locks the bobbin case in. You may have to unscrew the needle plate, take out the bobbin case, place it back in - pushing it to your left as you glide the needle plate back into place. (go from front to back while inserting). It should catch your bobbin case and lock it into place. Hope this helps. If not I would suggest you take it in for repair. Good luck.

SOURCE: I have a singer embroidery xl5000 machine. It will

Try removing the bobbin and cleaning the area of any stray threads or lint. When you replace the bobbin pull on the thread. The thread should pull easily and smoothly. If the bobbin is dirty inside the thread will get stuck and bobbin will get **** and thread will break.-------Check out. Thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: singer 427 cannot move needle

The machine timing has gotten out of adjustment. Slipping of an adjustment is causing the needle and shuttle to interfere. If the shuttle around the bobbin is not rotating, something has come loose. If you open and manually rotate the works you should be able to see what is not moving that should be. It may have lost a pin from a shaft or a setscrew. Test this without the needle in place.

Youtube has some good videos for the repair of the problem. Search for "sewing machine timing"

SOURCE: My Singer Prelude machine

Hi Jos, I'm no pro but I fix lots of things. It sounds like there is a mechanical blockage that is preventing the motor from turning. If you haven't already, open all the panels or covers that reveal the mechanical workings, and remove any bobbins (and maybe the needle, if the tip is touching another part of the machine) using your hand to gently rock the motor forward and backward (unplug the cord first) look for the parts to move however slightly they may be moving. if they move with your rocking motion and stop hard, there is something that has moved out of place. Closely watch the needle tip first to see how it moves and that it and its clamp are not bumping into anything. following up the shaft, gradually and methodically look at the next parts that you can see moving, and continue checking every consecutive piece in the mech, till you've come to the back end of the motor. if you havent found the culprit by now, at least you have narrowed down the possibilities and you know your toy much better that most people. When you take it to the service man, be sure to tell him how you examined it and every thing you have learned. By giving the repairer this head start, you not only reduce their time to fix it but...they will know that you are fully aware of your machine and understand something of the problem and about troubleshooting your sewing machine. You will probably fix it yourself but if not, you wont be overcharged by anyone.
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Singer 4166 suddenly started sewing only in reverse even when forward mode checked

open the top of the sewing machine. Then press the button or lever that changes the forward reverse mode. You may find that something got stuck there where it should effect the machine part. May a drop of oil on that spot can help?

I have a singer 3102, the feed dogs are moving up and down but they are not moving back and forth. I have just gotten this machine from a yard sale and the thread flies off of the holder when going high...

The feed dogs could very well be seized because the machine has not been cleaned and oiled recently and the old oil has dried causing the feed dogs to stick. As for the thread flying, suggestion would be to slow down. Some machines are better designed to handle the speed. Depends where the thread is flying off--if it's the thread spool, you can elongate the spool pin by sticking a plastic drinking straw over it. I have a machine that the thread frequently "jumps" out of the take-up lever--which has a slot for the thread instead of a hole. I devised a method of closing the top of the slot so the thread can no longer jump out.

For the other machine, you can search for sewing machine timing and attempt to repair it yourself. If not, then it probably needs a service call.
