The oil cap for the water pump is missing. what possible d

The red cap on top of the CAT water pump is missing the top to it, as the threading is still inside. What kind of damage can result if there is no seal on the pump? I have a feeling that the guy who owned it before me still ran the pump without the full cap.

SOURCE: pressure washer stalls

Pressure washers work under very dirty conditions, no wonder they encounter engine problems. Here are a few pointers from a former pressure pump tech. The unloader is a source of engine overloading however this can easily be checked with a pressure guage attached to the gun with a tee fitting having the guage and the normal tip used for the unit. The pressure should never rise over rated pressure. The pressure should drop considrably when trigger is released. The life of the pump and engine can be increased by setting max pressure to 75% of rating. Most engine problems are from following conditions:
Leaking or misadjusted valves; clogged muffer /spark arrester; weak spark coil that is about to fail completely; kill switch/oil sensor wiring and or sensor mal function; gas cap not venting properly causing vacuum in tank and wet or dirty air filter.
All these problems easy to check, fastest repair is to disconnect oil sensor wire to check oil safety system. Then temp replace coil with known good coil. Loosen muffer bolts to check for clogged muffler. Temp run engine without gas cap to check for vacuum. Finally if everything fails, run the engine with carb cleaner spraying directly into the intake. If the engine continues to run with carb cleaner then the problem is fuel delivey and faulty carb. enjoy

SOURCE: what is the red cap on the cat pump for?

The red cap is for adding lubricating oil for the crankcase in the pump. If oil is coming out of it while it is running a seal in the head wore out and water is getting into the crankcase and displacing the oil.

SOURCE: How full and with what oil to fill pump vent.

Any pressure washer pump should be no more than half full. The reason is if you fill it completely up when the piston strokes it will blow the seals out of the pump. Usually there is a sight gage on the side of the pump. I will look your model up and see what I can find as far as quantity for the pump. I won't be too long just read the 2nd response and please do not rate this one. I will get back to you ASAP.

I have a T reg Peugeot 106, the temperature light keeps coming on even thou I've topped the oil up. Any info plz

Topping up the oil has very little bearing on engines overheating.

You need to remove the radiator cap and top up the cooling system with anti-freeze and water mixed to specifications. Note that I mention RADIATOR CAP and not the expansion reservoir cap. Remove the radiator cap with the engine COLD. Once you have filled the radiator, you need to run the engine until it gets to full operating temperature. Some of the water will overflow out until the thermostat opens, then the water level will rise and fall. When it has settled, bubbles have stopped, turn the engine off, top up one last time. Replace the radiator cap and then top up the reservoir tank.

There are videos online, Google 'burping cooling system', and look at the images tab. Here you go.

I have a Honda pressure washer with Cat Pump 3dx29gsi, it runs rough when I pull the trigger and after 5 min of running, oil starts to spit out of small hole on red fill cap on pump

Sounds like you need to open the pump and inspect the pistons and seals. It appears that the seals & or pistons are worn and the water is by passing into the crankcase of the gear box. A sure sign oil coming out of the filler cap & the oil in the gear box will look milky ( water & oil mixed) This is not a difficult task to perform. You can purchase seal kits on line or in your area from suppliers of multi brand pressure washers who usually stock plenty of spare parts for various brands; many of which are interchangable. if you buy from a brand specific supplier you will pay much, much more. I suggest you remove the pump and dismantle it, inspect the parts to determine what parts are required and take it from there . If you are not experienced in doing mechanical repairs use your camera / Phone and snap each step as you dismantle the pump. First Remove the complete pump from the engine and then remove the pump head from the gear box - about 6 bolts and a few fittings . In the head there are several check valves ( usually 3 inlet & 3 outlet) these need to be removed to be cleaned, inspected, check o-rings, springs and valve seat ( usually a small metal disc ) which in many cases is the cause of low pressure due to dirt lodged between the disc & seat. Remove one at a time note how they are assembled, take a photo and place in a small zip-loc bag each one individually & mark the bag in relation to where each one was removed.
The same goes for the seals and washers on the pistons, these are located in the housing and depending on the brand are stacked according to the design of the seals , again take photos , tag & bag them. I suggest to tie each set together exactly as they were assembled when you removed them; it will make it a lot easier for you to assemble them correctly when the time comes to install them. Finally clean out the crankcase to remove the milky oil & water mixture.

Go for it Its not rocket sicence.

I have a Comet 4040 and oil and water mix is bubbling out of the red cap on top of my pressure washer. Can anyone tell me what repair kit I might need to fix this problem?

Hi this could be the oil and pump seals worn. Also make sure that you don,t have the transit plug in or the pump cannot breath. It should have a air vented dipstick.

Over heating honda civic lx after 40 miles of driving

may be the head gasket, check the oil filler cap for lime creamy deposit & if you can see the water throught the top up filler cap a red/blue discolouration on the top layer of water shows if oil is getting into the water system. either of those two test's mean's the head gasket need's changing, if not then change the thermostat, they usually stick closed from starting & cook the engine in minutes but you never know, anything in the cooling system could be causing this, a blockage or the water pump......
Hard problem to diagnose, I'd have to be there, but hope that help's..
