Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Singer touch and sew

My solid state machine which allows you to sew as slowly as desired started sewing as fast as it could go acting as if the pressure foot was stuck. It repeated this problem every time I tried to restart it. I don't know what's up and if it's anything I can fix. A solenoid maybe?

I found the same numbers on my Singer, but learned that the 13608M is not the serial number. I finally found it on the bottom of the machine. It typically begins with either a single or double letter. You can find the Serial No. and Year of Issue at http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html. You can also order a replacement manual. Another helpful site might be http://www.ismacs.net/Singer/singerdates.html.

Good luck.

SOURCE: I have a Singer Touch N Sew Model 636. The

I had a Golden Touch 'N Sew many years ago and as the machine aged and parts became worn, step 4 of this bobbin winding diagram started to become a problem and I had to sometimes try several times before the "tabs" would release. If they did not release, the machine "thought" it was still winding the bobbin and would not sew.

I bought my machine last yr & just started using it 2 days ago. Now it's acting up? The needle is hitting the bobbin plate. I've notice this is a common thing to happen to other confidence owners.

Sounds like the needle is bent. If it hits the plate just once it will blunt the needle and not sew properly. Failing that, the machine's timing may be off. Was it shifted about a lot in the year it was left in the box?

We have a Touch & Sew 640 that we ARE trying to get running, and we need a manual, and specifically how do w thread the bobbin.

To wind the bobbin, select straight stitch, thread the machine up as normal making sure the presser foot is up, open the slide plate, push the little button over to raise the winder, take the thread and wind it round the presser foot screw a few times, press on the foot control slowly and the bobbin will wind, when you have enough, stop, close the slide plate to drop the winder down, pull the threads to the back and start sewing. for manuals try www.tandtrepair.com

My singer touch & sew suddenly didn't stop

There might be something jamming the petal open so it won't slow or stop when you put your foot on it.. I would try that, get some canned air and blow it out and see if it helps.

Check your tension disks, with your presser foot up, and the tension dial on zero. Sometimes a piece of cotton breaks off between the tension disks and then prevents the disks to work properly. Also make sure when you thread the machine, the thread does go through the disks and over the take up lever. After you threaded the machine, before putting the thread through the eye of the needle, lower the presser foot and while pulling on the thread with your left hand, increase the tension with your right hand. Do it slowly and you should feel in difference in tension. If this is the case, your machine should work fine. Also use a ball-point needle on t shirt material. Good luck!
