Question about Braun 8585 Electric Shaver

Open Question

When switched on shaver starts slow and motor then moves normally

Haven't used this shaver in 6 months. It was plugged in during this time of non use and charging. When I finally switched it on the motor barely moved, sounded sluggish and labored very low rpm and then suddenly picked up quickly and sounded normal. Each time I turn the shaver on the motor does the same thing. It sounds like its going very slowly and then switches to normal sound and speed. Is it the motor or the batteries? The shaver is now about a year old.

I though your shaver's built in rechargeable batteries are dead and needs to be replaced..
When this battery is dead it stills show as it was charging while you plug it AC , Blue light functions when plugged in but unfortunately the battery does not hold the charge any more and shaver will not work,
My recommendation is to take the shaver to a repair shop to ask for battery status verification and if necessary for replacement.

either the motor or the battery will need to be replaced. You can test the battery with a voltmeter to see if it is holding power.

SOURCE: I have a Braun 360 and I haven?t had a problem

Hello,
I can't suggest anything for cleaning station but for direct connection of shaver please follow the possible solution below.
Your Rechargeable batteries (built in) could have been dead..and needs to be replaced.Normally they die in 2 to 3 years depending on the frequency of usage.
But before taking it to a repair shop ,make sure you check the power cord / adapter as well,
because sometimes one of the lead cracks at the point that it attaches to shaver for charging, which the power cord/adapter needs to be replaced. You can ask one of your friend to borrow its adapter for testing purposes.
If you wish you can describe the problem more details than I may suggest something else.
Regards.

It sounds like the batteries need replaced. You will find compatible battery type at shaveroutlet.com. See link below. You will need two batteries.

You will find a video showing how to open the shaver at shaveroutlet.com also. See link below

For easier replacement, it is suggested that you use a modified installation technique. This is to break the tabs off of the old batteries rather than unsoldering them from the circuit board. This allows the old batteries to be removed but leaves the tabs attached to the circuit board. You can then solder the tabs from the new batteries to the old existing tabs

How Long Should My Shaver Battery Last?

It depends on the razor. If you have a non-rotary razor, go in diagonals, against the grain and in small circles. If you have a rotary, like a Norelco, larger circles and straight up/down. I find it hard to get all the hairs so, I also use a regular razor blade in the shower and just do my neck.

Lint will jam the start/run switch on the motor. Vacuum out the motor real good and check that the switch moves freely, and all the wires to it are plugged in good.

My 6 inch Cummins bench grinder stopped working. When you turn on the switch it only has a quiet hum. Is it the capacitor?

Try wrapping a thin cord around the shaft many times to allow the shaft to be spun in the normal running direction when pulled. Pull sharply on the cord and turn the motor on--if the starting capacitor is bad, the motor should continue to run until shut off. If there is no capacitor, then the motor uses a start winding and a centrifugal switch to start. The switch is supposed to open when the motor comes up to speed. If you used to hear a loud 'click' when the motor was shut off and slowing down, then you likely have the start winding and switch. If the contacts on the switch become burned and not make contact, then it will display the symptoms you mention. You will need to access one or the other end covers to reach the switch. Hope this helps!

The problem is almost certainly the batteries. You can access the batteries by removing the screws on the back and taking off the back cover. You will find batteries at shaveroutlet.com. You will need two batteries. See link below

This problem can be caused by a malfunctioning printed circuit board inside the shaver. This usually can be fixed by fully discharging the battery then fully charging it or disconnecting the battery then reconnecting it (if possible, most shavers has their batteries soldered-in).

the 110 plugin goes into a circuit which changes AC to DC for charging the internal NiCad batteries. If there is NO charge whatsoever in the batteries, the shaver will not work. If you have any electronics background a simple test with a VOM will determine if the bridge rectifier is putting out any DC.[you must disassemble the shaver] If you have no experience on circuits take it to a repair location.

Wet/dry Panasonic shaver stopped

503d300.jpg
My model is almost the same as your model ...

Problem: Model ES7037CMB - Over the past month the Panasonic shaver would turn on with 3-4 tries, but now will not turn on at all – the on-off switch must be bad after only 7 months of wet use. Before sending in I found this diagram:

Disassembly: Remove bottom Phillips screw & end cap, pop off each plastic side with fingernails (reinstall them from top 1st), remove 4 screws, remove 2 clips, take top off. Remove battery case and the on-off little, white plastic lever fell out. Slide off the white plastic/metal on-off slider & clean contacts with knife … my bottom contact was black & top was clean.

Assembly: Reinstall on-off slider (white plastic with metal contacts) by sliding back in grooves -- hardest part - place the on-off plastic lever on the battery back unit – I tried to put it on the case and could not get it to stay on. Slide the battery pack back in with the plug prongs in the holes in the end being careful not to drop the on-off lever. Test shaver. Stuff battery wires inside case – screw 4 screws and add 2 clips on, then final screw in the end after cap placed on. Easy once I knew how to put the on-off lever on the battery side – that was tricky. Total time was about 1 hour – next time it will be about 15 minutes. Works great! jgg 12-27-08. Think I will use it dry from now own since it had a lot of whiskers inside of it and maybe wash only the head as needed with baby shampoo.

It keeps flashing CHARGE

Return the shaver to the store from which you purchased from. It would appear that one or more of the Ni Cad batteries are no good and will not accept a charge. Have you attempt to plug the charger directly into the shaver? If not, try that and see if the shaver will run. Still your best move is to return the unit to the store as it is still under store return warranty. Dutchman
