SOURCE: Ativa SPL 1506X not working

I had the same "click" noise when trying to shred. I had a Staples replacement guarantee (extended warranty) so I called them up and described the issue. They are sending me a gift card for the purchase amount. Seeing as they did not want the original unit back I decided to take it apart to see if I could find the problem. I did not find an issue with the gear as the other user stated but I did notice a burn mark on the circuit board just under the relay (which could make a click noise) I removed and inspected the relay (desoldered), but I could not see anything wrong with it so I re-soldered it back onto the board and re-soldered (re-flowed) all of the other connections just in case there was a cracked joint. Upon testing the shredder still has the same "click" sound. My guess is there is a faulty device on the circuit board such as a resistor or relay. To sum it up, to repair this particular issue you will be unable to implement a "simple" fix and it would realistically require either a new circuit board or a whole new shredder.

SOURCE: Staples SPL-1506X Shredder Issue

I had the same problem. I have a solution but I do not recommend this unless you have technical experience with repairing electrical appliances. I took the back cover of the main shredder unit to expose the wiring (there are 7 screws in total). The bin full sensor has a blue, green, and red connected to it. I clipped the blue wire to defeat the Bin Full error. You can look through the plastic window to check that the bin is full.

SOURCE: Staples SPL-1506X

Well, despite the manufacters warning label I choose to take the shredder apart and found that one of the plastic gears was broken. Hence the motor runs, but the blades do not turn. The thing I didn't understand, the there are metal gears and plasic gears...I can only imagine that the plastic gears at one point or another are going to give. I would suggest not to void the manufacters warrenty, take the shredder back, and get one that is built a little stronger. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: The blades are stuck in reverse

I have a Fellows paper Shredder. When I turn the switch on the motor hums loud and rotates very slow. If I push the reverse button it continues to hum but rotates in the reverse direction. I checked the capacitor and it measures 26 micro farads. The spec is 25 so I think that is good. I have 11 ohms across the capacitor leads and I have 5.5 ohms across each capacitor lead and the hot so I think the windings are good. I don't see any obvious issues on the circuit board.

Where can I obtain a repair manual for a Staples SPL 1506X Shredder

You can't. You take it apart yourself, you find the cogs inside are plastic and shattered and you can't get replacements, so you have to buy a new one.

How to oil shredder staples spl-1506x?

You can buy commercial products, or run some wax paper through your machine periodically. The wax will not gum up like oil and attract dirt.

The blades are stuck in reverse

I have the exact same problem. In fact, my SPL-1506X is sitting disassembled on the kitchen table as I write this. There is a PC Board inside the unit with a relay that directs the motor to run in forward or reverse. My relay is fused in the reverse position. I know this because the relay's casing is clear polycarbonate. If that relay can be replaced, the SPL-1506X will be fixed, I'm convinced. Unfortunately, the relay is made in China. So much for quality! I located the part no. on the web: Sanyou SME-2110DP a DPDT relay. If you can find it(which I can't), you're in luck. Myself, I'm going to trash the unit.

Have you looked for hidden staples in the machine. Sometimes they can be hard to spot.

Chances are a gear has broken. This problem requires labor and parts which in some cases is as much or more than the original equipment.

No power to SPL-1506X

I had the same problem-one day the shredder worked, the next day no power. We checked the fuse and it was ok. There is a safety switch that has to engage with a plastic tab on the bin. For some reason it was no longer engaging. We put a piece of cardboard into the slot and now it works fine.

I had the same problem. I took the machine apart and found out that the main gear running the rollers was defective. All of the cogs were broken or worn out, If you can find parts it can be fixed?
