Saltwater system just shuts off

the pump must not have any air leaks in the suction side of it,, or it will just **** air and not water,,, water is very heavy you see, however i think its the impeller in the pump thats the problem,,,you should try to put water in the out let of the pump so you fill the pump with water first if its dryed out it may just wear out the impeller before it starts to **** water up, if this still dont work turn off the stop **** and strip out the pump to look at the impeller any wear on it and it will need a new one fitted

It, did not turn your pool green. The pool was ready to turn green before you installed the intex system.
before having the system did you regularly use stabilizer? non foaming algecide? How long do you filter? There are so many variables. I will try to make it as easy as possible

We will address the salt system last right now you need to get your pool back to normal
Start by shocking it with 1-2 gallons of liquid chlorine let filter run during this time to stir it up
after 12 hours you need to brush the sides and bottom and then let settle
Now vaccum and then clean your cartridge with a strong blast from the garden hose
Start filtering again and at this point add the non foaming algaecide
the next day brush again and let settle vaccum again clean the filter again and continue this until the pool is clear

once it is clear you will want to use the algaecide once every 5-7 days.

Now a little fyi
Intex filters can not support the gl ph that is needed to keep a pool clean and crystal clear. All of there pumps are under rated for the gallon of pool that is sold with it

A pool needs to be turned over at LEAST 3 times in a 12 hour period
I will use generic #'s
If you have a 5000 gl pool and a 2500 gallon pump that is 6 hours minimum filtering time you do the math for your pool

You should also run the pump continuous. It is the only way to really filter efficiently with an intex pump


now for your generator
Although a good concept it is really a waste of money.
All the salt system does for you is to make it so you do not need to add liquid chlorine or tablets but you still need to add chemicals as mentioned above

get a test kit for salt water the ones that read #'s not color
get the salt to 3000ppm no lower than 2700 or you will not be able to produce enough sanitizer and any more than 3800 and the water tastes terrible and will usually trigger an alarm for high salt
once your pool is clear shoot for this

now to maintain it

Although you may be told otherwise this is what has worked for me for this being the 4th season with no green ever

I filter 24/7 with generating chlorine any where from 4-12 hours depending on the day.
chlorine consumption is created by many factors # of bathers heat sun rain people sneaking in with sun tan oil and so on you will need to figure out what is best for your situation
Dont forget to get a good stabilizer to help with holding the amount of chlorine in the pool usually about a pound per 5000 gl
as mentioned I also use the non foaming algaecide just follow the directions for your gl pool
I also use a water clarifyer that turns minute particles into larger particals that the filter can actually catch
and even though the filter may not look dirty clean it every day.
I use 2 one in the unit and one drying
Spray it out hard and let it dry overnight

Dont ask me why or how but a filter that is dry from the start filters better than a wet one put back in right away

Had you been doing all of this since you opened the pool the addition of the salt system would have worked fine

You should not blindly ad salt
you need a salt test strip that reads in #'s not color
get your water to 3000ppm any lower than 2800ppm and you will not generate enough chlorine
any higher than 3500 and you could get cloudy water and trigger high salt reading not to mention the bad taste

continue what you are doing in addition add 1 gl of liquid chlorine to shock the pool with cleaning your cartridge out every 4-6 hours
once it starts clearing up start using a non foaming algaecide every 5-7 days just use the directions on the botttle Since you already have an algae problem, even though it will be clearing up you should go for the maximum dose the first time

As for OUR pump/filter/salt combo it is a piece of ****

I do not know your gl of water but here is a generic set

a pool needs turned over 3-4 times minimum in a day
so if you have a 5000gl pool and our filter at 2000gl ph you need to run it at least 7 1/2 hours at bare minimum

I now run mine 24/7 I generate chlorine over night and filter during the day even when being used
also you should check the front of your motor where the hose goes in this catches debris and hair that the skimmer lets in
with these pumps you need all of the flow you can get

speaking of flow we do not get enough of it so it is very important to use the pool every day if you are not then at least brush it every few days once you are green free

another thing to do is once you get the pool back to swimable

Have your best swimmer get in and clean under the seems with a toothbrush inside the pool
in the liner you should have 2 seems in the floor and one around the bottom between floor and side
you now will have a build up of algae in these seems that will not completely go away with shocking since it is protected by being wedged under the seem
Physically lift and scrub

So many peolpe are led to believe that using a salt system takes away the need of other chemicals
This couldn't be further from the truth A salt system just makes it so that you do not have to physicaly ad liquid chlorine or float tablets

First of all lets get a little educated in pool maintainence 101 and then I will address your problem ( First problem was buying an Intex product ) but I will cover that too

You can not just blindly ad salt to the system
you need to get a salt test kit that reads in #'s not color
You need to get the water to as close to 3000ppm as possible
Any lower than 2700ppm and you can trigger low salt alarm, not to mention not generating enough chlorine
Any higher than 3500 and you can go cloudy, trigger high salt alarm and you could go cloudy

Now for the intex curse
not a single pump/filter is sufficient with the pools they come with
They are to small
A pool needs to be turned over at least 3-4 times in a cycle 24 hours
I do not know your gl or pump size so I will use generic #'s

If you have a 5000gl pool and a 1500gl pump thats 10 1/2 hours of filtering at the minimum
Use your #'s and figure out what you need to be doing

You want to start by getting your salt right this is crucial What it says in the manuals is just a starting point the fine tuning is up to you

Lets now side track and I will tell you how to cure your problem.
This is time consuming but will give you the best results

Blast out your paper cartridge with the water hose now ad 1 gallon ofliquid chlorine
Filter only for 24 hours now brush your pool with a pool brush not the bristles under your vaccum not enough of them to do any good
now clean the filter again and run for a few hours until you see things settle down
Vaccum and clean the filter and start over again
Check your chlorine if it is normal or low ad another 1/2 if it is super high then leave the chlorine step out
Once you are clear again or close to it Ad a non foaming algecide and also ad chlorine stabilizer this is a chemical that you put in a nylon sock and float it behind the ladder this will help hold the chlorine

Once your chlorine level is at the point you can swimm again you should get your best swimmer to get in with a tooth brush and clean the over flaps in the seems that are on the bottom and where the sides connect to the floor

This should do it

lets look at one more thing
Chlorine generation
There may be night that you need to run it 12 hours for chlorine and other nights 5 or so
It all depends on many factors
sun,heat,number of swimmers, sun tan oil and so on
The biggest thing you can do wrong is to not use the pool If it is not being used every day you should brush sides and floor every 3 days or so. The pump is not strong enough to circulate the water properly

One more thing that I do and I have not changed my filters in this being my 3rd season
I have 2 one is always drying
Start with a dry filter and have the other clean and drying
Change them every couple of days.
Never try to use a wet filter it does not work like a dry one
Dont ask why it is just one of those mysteries
Also periodicaly take the hose off the front of the motor your inlet hose this can build up hair and debris that gets in from skimming

Unless the manual specifically says otherwise there should be no problem. The salt level in salt water pools is very minimal, so it's really no different than using mineral additives. Do pay attention to salt system though as far as using other mineral additives such as copper or silver algaecides as they can damage the salt system.
