Turning it backwards didn't work on my watch. I ended up winding the time ahead several days worth to show the right day of the week (being careful to turn it to the correct 9 o'clock of the day, for me is was the first for morning.) Then I could go ahead and change the date using the first click postition of the stem.
I see that light bulb going off and you whispering "why, of course!"

1) Press and hold mode for about 2 seconds and then release. You will now be in the alarm edit mode.
2) Press mode once more and now you are in time edit mode.
3) Use the stop button to select what to edit, i.e. hour minute, etc.
4) Use the reset button to make the changes once you have selected the hour/minute, etc. that you want to change.

SOURCE: Can't turn off alarm
Here are the instructions to view, change alarm time and turn off alarm:
From normal time display:
Press MODE once to display stop watch.
Press MODE again to change alarm time.
Press MODE again to change time.
From normal time display:
Press RESET once to display current alarm time.
Press and hold RESET then press START to turn on and off alarm (watch for alarm symbol on top left)
Press and hold RESET then press MODE to turn on daily alarm vs one time (watch day marker lines at the bottom)

Follow these steps to adjust the time :
Step 1. Press and hold MODE for 2 seconds and then release. The watch will be in alarm mode.
Step 2. Press mode again to enter time mode adjust.
Step 3. Press the stop button to cycle through what you want to adjust.
Step 4. Press the reset button to adjust the actual item.
Step 5. Press MODE to exit time setting mode.
