SOURCE: GE washer keeps filling with water.

It sounds like you have a bad fill valve assembly. Normally the valve opens and closes by an electrically activated solenoid which is usually controlled by a pressure switch. However...IF the diaphragm that closes on the valve is broken, has a hole in it, cannot close all the way due to an obstruction, or if your water pressure is too low, the valve will remain open and water will leak by. Since you didn't mention any problems with the hot water side of the valve, I would suspect that water pressure probably isn't a problem. Turn the water off and remove the hoses to the fill valve on the back of the washer. Inspect the cold water side for any obstructions and/or check for any damage to the valve itself. If you don't find anything obvious, replacing the fill valve will probably correct your problem. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Ge washer wont stop filling with water

The usual culprit for a washer that will not stop filling is the pressure switch. The switch is located inside the operator console behind the load size, or water level knob (this knob has different names based on the washer model). Before assuming the pressure is defective, however, inspect the pressure switch and ensure the small plastic air hose is still attached to it. It is common for this small air hose to come loose or develop small cracks or breaks. Without the hose installed, the switch cannot detect the appropriate pressure in the wash tub and will not shut off. The result: as washer that continually fills and will overflow. What appears to be a significant problem may only be a loose hose and few minutes of your time. Please inspect the switch, check the entire length of the hose for cracks and make sure the electrical connection(s) are intact and not corroded, then get back to me. I hope this helps you.

PS Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before servicing!

Water still running when machine is off, what to check for

Here is what you can do to determine what part you will need to replace. Turn the washer on and let it fill with water on any wash cycle. While it is filling with water unplug the washer (power cord to the outlet). If water continues to enter the washing machine it means that the washer inlet valve will need to be replaced. If the water stops filling when the washer is unplugged then you will need to replace the timer or control board which powers the valve.

Water level

Probable causes:
Faulty water inlet valve - unplug washer, if water continues to fill
replace the valve.
Water level switch, hose or dome faulty - service the assembly.
Timer faulty - unplug washer, if water stops filling test timer.

Dennis

When I start the washer it continues to fill up and wont stop

Hello,Sounds like a problem with either the inlet valve or the pressure switch, way to determine which one is... while it is filling pull the plug..if water keeps filling it's the inlet valve..if it stops filling it's the pressure switch..The inlet valve is normally located in the back of the machine where the hoses hook up. The pressure switch can normally be found inside the control panel with a small rubber tube attached to it. You should replace the faulty part. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again..good luck!! Mike

WILL NOT STOP FILLING

Hello Friend, You either have a bad water level/pressure switch or your water inlet valve is bad. If you unplug the washer from the wall and the water stops filling the washer then it's not the water inlet valve. If it only continues to fill when wash cycle is started then you will need to replace the water level/pressure switch behind control panel. This should solve your problem. Happy to help, Tim.

Replace water inlet valve, it's stuck open. You may try removing hoses to valve and see if something is holding it open

Turn the washer on and let the water run, while the water is running unplug the power cord if the water stops the inlet valve is ok but if still running the valve is bad and need to be replace if the pump is good you need to test the water level switch, if faulty need to replace.

Water doesn't stop filling

If you turn power off to machine (or unplug) and washer continues to fill, you need to replace the water inlet valve. (the part the hoses connect to) If cutting power stops the water fill, you have a problem with the water level switch or the tubing leading to it.
