You need the sound driver I assume for this laptop. If it doesnt match hardware perfectly then nothing will work.
Go to vendors site with your S/N and Model number to locate the exact sound driver.
Have you checked in control panel / sound speech / sounds & audio devices / click on "sounds" blind and see if any of the sounds can be activated by clicking the big black arrow. If greyed out then the driver is not installed.

You have to go to devices then click on your sound devices and choose update driver be sure to check the go on the internet to seek drivers as well and be online. If this does not work I use this resource for all my driver issues.

If youcan I suggest upgrading anyway to Win 7 they are downloaded mostly for youduring the install process which makes it a lot easier these days to fixmachines. Less time in any event go to that site make sure that you have U torrent a torrentfile down-loader program software. Type in the search box once at thebtjunkie site XP drivers you will have thousands of them to download on onedisk insert the disk then go to devices seek the drivers needed to be foundpoint the seek to your drivers disk and hopefully it can be had. I never havean issue with drivers using the software downloaded from there site. I hopethis assists you. It is also for those of you who read this post to keep yourdriver files with your purchase when you bought the computer. If this is notthe case then you will have to hunt them down. John
