Question about Dryers
At Christmas time it started SQUEALING and then it stated sounding like a helicopter landing, yesterday I did 4 loafs and it seemed to take longer than usual to dry.. Today it's DEAD!! I bought it in. November of 2006... Any suggestions?
It sounds like the belt might have broke. Its cheap to replace yourself but you have to disassemble the dryer. If you buy one at your local appliance store they can probably give you pointers on how to disassemble your particular model.

the noise is coming from the drum axle bushing that allows the drum to spin on it's axle. Gain access to the rear of machine and apply some high temperature grease that is found in automotive parts stores to the bushing. run it while observing spinning drum at rear for any possible other problem where squeal can be found such as drum slides.

SOURCE: Dryer Noise
You need to have you belt replaced. Over time the belt will strech.
this causes the dryer to still spin but the belt will sometimes loose the grasp of the drum and cause the belt to spin only.
This happens because over time with heavy loads of towles and jeans pull down on the drum as it is being loaded. Than when in cycle the jeans will drop from the top to the bottom pulling aginst it even more..

Hi, this is a belt issue. make sure the tension on the belt/motor is sufficient. adjust to specs. if the belt is fine, this will be bad bearings in the roller assembly.
Replace the rollers in this case.

My dryer of the same model number had the same issue. The teflon/plastic wear points are worn out or have fallen off. They are about $22.00 plus shipping at the site below. Disconnect the power, lift (with force) the top off at the front of the dryer and you will have access to remove and replace.
Felt glide assembly - Upper felt seal with three glides attached. Comes with adhesive.

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine, Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer. Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor. Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear. Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt. Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them. If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem. I will include these two websites for parts and further help: http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
