Question about HP Pavilion dv7-1129wm Notebook
Trying to install windows 7 but bios telling me that only Vista is allowed (which is the o/s it came with). Please advise. Is there a way to tell the BIOS to allow any install?
I know this is common in Windows 8 PC's, never saw it in Vista. I would recommend upgrading the BIOS if an update is available from HP. Really makes no sense as Win 7 is based on Vista's framework. According to HP, they made 20 versions of this model, if you can get back to me with the complete model number (from the sticker on the bottom) that would be a big help.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

find your rtc and remove battery(looks like a large digital watch battery)leave it out for a couple of minutes then replace it , bios will then then be then be reset to factory.you can then enter a password(new) or leave it blank(no password)the battery is housed some where on the motherboard, sometimes on top sometimes underneath.on a evo I looked at the other day the battery was next to the ram slots so very easy to get to.without checking service manual cant tell you exactly where yours might be located.

I have bought recently HP Pavilian DV6000, which comes up with Windows Vista Home Premium with two partion C: loaded Vista and D: loade recovery.
After doing som stuff i success fully made new partion without any third party software and without loosing my Vista and drive D:
And I have installed XP on my new partion and i can use now XP and vista both on my lap.
In your case if you can make recover then you can try the followings:
Step 1). Boot up your lap with Vista.
Step 2). Navigate Start -> Administrative Tools->Computer Management-> Storage ->Disk Management
Now Here you can see the partition which you have on your system.
Step 3). Right Click on C: drive and select 'Shrink Volume...' from pop-up menu.
It will show how many space you may get after shrinking of the partition.
Step 4). click on Shrink button.
Now Unknown partition will be shown in Gray Color.
Step 5). Right Click on this and select Create Partition
And Name this as WinXP or some thing which you may recognize during XP setup.
Now you have new partion on your system.
boot from your XP CD and install this on your newly created partition.
And tell me if you got stuck any where or hav any problem.

The problem is that HP does not have a BIOS update since the F.34 version dated10-2005. Does anybody have any experience with updating to a later/more recent BIOS of another HP Pavilion model laptop? It theoritically should work!!!
