Question about GE 25951EE2 Phone

Handset won't charge

I bought the two handset cordless several months ago and set up the second handset.  It worked fine.  I, then, disconnected it and did not use if for several months.  Now I'm trying to get it up and going.  The charge/in use light does not come on.  When I hit 'Talk', the word Talk comes up followed immediately by Unavailable.  I've moved the handset right next to the baseo....same prob.  I've set the second handset on the base for over 20 seconds as per instructions.....still doesn't charge/

Nothing worked.  I even got a new battery.  I found a statement in the user manual that said to remove batteris if storing over 30 days.  Since I did not, perhaps the handset got done in.

What fits your definition of a strong solvent?

  • accdev Nov 01, 2007

I've used alcohol several times. I've run steel wool across the connectors. (As I said earlier on, I've never seen any evidence at all of corrosion.....even under a magnifying glass.)

When I first close the battery section after re-installing the battery, the led lights up and says LOW BATTERY. It, then, fades off. When I set it on either the base station or the handset base no red light comes on to indicate that the battery is charging. I've left it on for a long time....no red light ever. When I set the good handset on either base, the red light comes right on.

  • accdev Nov 01, 2007

When the battery is reattached and the back is closed, the LED light comes on with LOW BATTERY in it. The light then goes out. When I place the handset on its own base or on the main base, the red charge light does not come on. I've left it on the main base for an hour and its own base overnight.....nothing...no charge light.

I've used alcohol, a knife scraping, sandpaper on the connectors. They've never looked corroded even under a magnifying glass.

When I put the good handset in either base, the charge light comes right up.

    I used a new battery.

Hi,

Not using the handset for several months  would have allowed corrosion to develop on the charging contacts.  You have to use cotton buds and a strong solvent to clean the charging contacts.

Alternately, it may be that the battery is already dead and no longer would accept a charge.  These are plug-in types and are replaceable.  Incidentally, it is also possible that the corrosion developed on the battery connector contacts themselves.

Indication of corrosion would be dull colored contacts with bits of flakes - clean to make shiny again; the connector corrosion would be wet powdery greenish substance on the wires or connector from the battery.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

I sincerely doubt if the handsets are goners. Since you have new battery, there should be some indication that the charging system is operating like power on led when  the unit is plug in.

As initially posted, contacts may be corroded hence even with new batteries, there is still no charging current going to the battery and unit will appear dead.  Further, initial charging time for new batteries, may require continuous charge for at least 14 hours.

    Cheers.

Rubbing alcohol would do but the best would be an electronic contact cleaner.

The battery would have 2 wires (black & red normally) that would go to a plastic connector (black or white) that mates to another plastic connector. There would be 2 terminals (pins) that need to be cleaned. Sometimes scrapping the terminals with a small pocketknife helps remove any surface corrosion. It is possible (though unlikely) that the corrosion has extended to the printed circuit board (PCB) of the handset. If the cleaning doesn't work on the PCB, you may need to reheat the soldered connections.

Pls bear with me with my persistence that your handset is not a goner. An indication that the handset is still generally ok is that it still can sense that there is a battery and that it has a low charge.  I am assuming then that the general electronics is ok and chances are it is only the charging circuit that might be at fault.

You can try switching batteries.  The new battery then will be in the good unit and check if it will charge. On the handset in question, put the fully charged battery of the good handset. If it works, we just have confirmed that the unit is still operational and our problem is limited to the charging circuit. If not then, your choice of repair or replace.

Pls post back result of the battery switching.

With a known good fully charged battery and the unit still does not worked then it is time for repairs or replacement.

If you are familiar with electronic components and circuitry, then perhaps you can give it a try. Of course you must also be comfortable working with a soldering iron and a DVM, otherwise your best bet may be to seek the services of a qualified technician. On the other hand, it might be more practical to simply replace the unit.

Good morning! I just a bout 5 month ago this phone with its 5 handsets. In the last month 2 of the handsets dead, they are not operating ant are not charging. What I have to do. Thank

If they are not charging the batteries they will need to be replaced, but just to be sure! take a good working battery and switch out for the bad one and if the phone charges, the batteries are no good and proves the phone is good. Now! since your phones are a few months old you may still have warranty, I would encourage you to go back where they were bought to remedy the problem.

Uniden DECT 1580-4WXT waterproof unit appears to be dead - will not charge or register with base unit. Just bought system at Sam's Club 2 days ago. The other 3 units work fine.

This phone uses inductive charging because of the waterproof feature. I suggest that you remove the
battery cover from the back of the handset, unplug
the battery, and then plug it back into the handset.
This solution worked for me.

I am having problem with my cordless phone.

Another tip is to remove the battery from the handset for at least 5 seconds. You might want to get a voltage meter and check the voltage on that new battery - maybe it isn't charging properly.

CORDLESS PHONES FOR THE UXCC500 FAX ANSWERING MACHINE

You can connect up to 4 cordless sets (Operating manuals, page 21, states 3 but they really mean 3 in addition to the one packed with the base, for a total of 4). I've head four connected for over 5 years now and they work fine. In your case, try disconnecting the battery of the cordless for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect. You may also want to disconnect the power cable from the base unit for a half minute or so. I found this method to be equivalent to a cold boot, and quite effective in getting all phones to work again after a storm or power outage.

2nd handset doesn't work

Hi Rayfatz,
I think your problem might be that the second handset is not registered with the base station. Take the second phone out of it's cradle and place it in the base station (where the first phone is), and leave it there for 20 seconds. Place it back in it's own cradle, and it should start working. Hope this helps! Hal
