Question about RCA Video Cameras

Tape Eject Mechanism

RCA PRO 870: While copying tapes to my computer, a tape jam occurred. I was able to get the now badly mangled tape out using the eject button. The problem is when I close the tape door, the top part will not come down (with or without tapes inserted). The eject button will still, open the side door, but nothing happens with the top section.

How much did you pay for the Camera? Want to send it to a Repair shop, or try to fix it yourself? I have links to repair manuals and one to a repair shop in Florida. Post a reply if you want those links.

SOURCE: Tape deck won't eject tape

The tape might be wrapped around the head or the capstan. The mechanism is delicate so you risk more damage by trying yourself - check with some of the repair shops on the Fixya home page for prices to remove the tape.

Why does my RCA VR667 not accept a tape and returns a eject or stop message?

A couple of reasons. First the carriage the tape sits in is damaged. Next the mechanism that moves the tape is damaged and can't except a tape. Lastly or perhaps due to the later, the mode switch is faulty or not in the right position. The mode switch tells the electronics which position the mechanism is in, be it play, fast forward or eject etc. If the switch is faulty and stuck in eject then it wont except a tape.

Can not eject video cassette from RCA VCR model VR680HF

Best thing to do here is open unit and have a look--likely the tape is bound up on a post or something--usual cause is the mechanism that rewinds/plays the tape is not working right----when eject is hit it rewinds and puts the tape back into the cassette.

This unit is old enough to have about 5 belts and a rubber drive wheel any of which if broken or bad will do this.

They used to sell a belt pack by model number with the drive idler--pretty easy to replace IF you can find the parts.

Why do my vcr eat taps

Every VCR has a transport mechanism that moves the tape-when eject is hit it reverses and winds the tape back into the cassette and closes the door on the tape BEFORE the tape exits the unit.

It is not doing that so the tape gets mangled--bad belts, bad rubber drive wheel etc---all happen with age even if unit is not used much.

Parts for these are getting hard to find--if any questions post a comment here.

Cannot get tape to eject

It could be a couple of different issues. These things could help.
(1) Power OFF the camera, remove battery then replace the battery, power up the cam and try to eject tape again. Nothing? try...
(2) Gently press inward on the tape cover with both thumbs a few times. Then, while pressing gently inward with one hand, press the release/eject-tape function until you hear a click or release sound. Then, if it doesn't open automatically, gently "help" open the hatch.

If it remains stuck, after follwing these steps a few times it would be my guess that perhaps the camera has been dropped in a way that jammed the mechanism controlling the eject function.

TIPS that may prevent having eject problems: When loading tape, be sure to insert the tape correctly and slowly, makeing sure the tape is placed properly. Gently press on the specific location indicated to close the tape holder, and wait for the tape to "seat" properly before closing any other part of the tape cover or hatch mechanism. Taking a few extra seconds when loading the tape can save extended frustration later.

My dsr-45 no eject cassete

Hi,
please follow this :-Remove the case, remove the mechanism cover, cut the mangled tape in pieces and take it out gently - you are going to have to rotate some part to untangle most of it. With all the tape that's out of the cassette removed from the mechanism put the unit back together and eject it.

i hope this will be helpfull to you .

Vcr jams on eject

What do you mean 'Tape crunches" Do you mean that there is tape slack, which then crunches when Tape is lifted during Eject? If that is the case, then the Supply Reel Roller Brake is bad. it is a Felt Pad, which needs replacing. If the entire eject operation is wonky, or if it's timing is bad, then I suspect that One of the eject Gears (On either side of the Mechanism) is damaged and needs to be replaced. One question, i assume that you are able to eject the Tape eventually, and so - Does the Tape Load into the VCR properly, when you insert it into the machine? This will help me in giving you a better diagnosis.
