It supplies the power needed for VGA . if you don't connect it you lose the display.

gateway support shows you have a pci-e x16 slot for a video card

you can choose a non-powered pci-e video card for your system, which might be better for you if you still have the stock power supply in your tower.

or, you can choose a powered pci-e card if your power supply is powerful enough to run your system AND a pci-e video card too. a powered card will have a spot for a 6 pin (or 2x 6 pin or sometimes a 6 pin and/or an 8 pin) power connector that comes from your power supply to the video card ... you may have to replace your power supply to use a powered card, or get a pci-e power adapter (not the preferred method, but sometimes works).

B - Processor Core Power Connector;
is the connector on the motherboard for the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable.
Located close the motherboard top edge, left side. Yellowish 4-socket hole square connector.

2) D - CPU Fan Connector,
The Processor fan connector is white in color, 3-pin, and above the processor socket.

3) F - Main Power Connector,
The 24-pin ATX main power cable connector on the motherboard, is to the Right of the Ram Memory slots

4) N - Front Audio Connector, (Front Panel audio ports)
Red in color, 9-pin header, and is located below the white No.2 PCI slot, at the bottom of the motherboard.

5) P - System Fan Connector, (System Fan = Computer case fan)

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.

The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

In the list click on -> Product Views
Now click on -> S - Front Panel Connector

Motherboard installed in the computer case, the Front panel header is at the Bottom/Right corner.
It has -> F_PANEL <- silkscreened in white underneath it.

Two rows of pins.
The pins on the Top row are numbered EVEN.
The pins on the Bottom row are numbered ODD.

Starting on the LEFT side, coming across to the Right;
Top row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, No pin, 12, and 14.

Starting on the LEFT side, coming across to the Right;
Bottom row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.

Pins 11, 12, 13, and 14 are NOT USED.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.
These pins are in the Orange blocks.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.
These pins are in the Blue blocks.

C) Pin 9 is N/C. Not Connected. Reserved for factory use.
Black block.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED. (Light)
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR ON LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.
These pins are in the Green block.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.
These pins are in the Red block.

F) There is NO Pin 10.
Black block.

Again, Pins 11, 12, 13, and 14 are Not Used.

B- CPU Power Connector is at the upper left corner of the motherboard. This power cable is power for the Processor.
MUST be plugged in.

Just a regular Ol' ATX power supply. Rated at a maximum wattage rating of 300 to 525 Watts. Two different power supply options offered.

Power Supply case size is;

In the future, (Or now if you have one), you can upgrade to a better graphics card, that needs an additional power cable, IF you wish.

I Need the jumper settings for the fic k8mc51g motherboard from a emachines desktop computer. Putting the motherboard in a custom case.


There is a 4-Pin Speaker connector that is not used by Gateway on the motherboard (right beside) the CMOS jumper settings (Pins).
The clear CMOS settings jumper block is right beside the speaker pins. You can use this jumper block to clear the CMOS RAM, which is powered by the onboard real-time clock button cell battery.
Pin 3 is indicated by the markings on the board.
Settings: Pins 1 and 2 covered = Normal Operation Pins 2 and 3 covered = Clear CMOS enabled.crazyeyes746.jpg

Sections 4.5.2 and 4.5.3 (Page 38) list the signal and wire colors for the +12V2DC (2x2 pin) and Peripheral (Molex) Connectors. Figure 11 (page 36) shows diagrams of the connectors and pin-outs for reference.

Most likely, you are looking for the 2x2 pin connector; pins 1&2 are common (black wire), pins 3&4 are +12V2DC (yellow wire w/black stripe)

ATX Power Supply Question


Most new power supplies have a twenty pin Molex connector and a 4 pin Molex connector. If you look closely at the connectors you will see that they go together a certain way. It can be very hard to tell. Take a close look at the shapes of each terminal. Match them up exactly.
