Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: lost linux password

The easiest thing to do is:
Boot into rescue mode, use a fedora cd or dvd if neccessary to accomplish this.
cd to where your filesystem is mounted, which I think is /mnt/sysconfig
cd /mnt/sysconfig
Then type:
vi etc/shadow
This brings up a file with lots of lines with usernames as the first field in each line. Root should be on the first line. Each line uses a colon (:) as a delimiter between fields. The second field in the root line is the md5 hash of the root password. Get your cursor to it and remove it by pressing x until it is gone. The second field is then empty with 2 colons in a row after root.
Press esc, then colon, then wq and you will save it and quit. Now reboot and login as root, with no password.
Change the root password immediately with the command:
passwd root
and for future incidents, install sudo, set yourself up as a user of sudo with full privileges and when it happens again, just type
sudo passwd root
and set the root password to whatever you want.

CLEAR POWER-ON PASSWORD IN XW 6200

Try Below step.

To disable the power-on or setup password features, or clear the power-on or setup passwords, do the following:
  1. Shut down the operating system and then turn off the workstation and any external devices. Disconnect the power cord of the workstation and any external devices from the power outlets.
  2. Disconnect the keyboard, monitor, and any other external devices that are connected to the workstation.
  3. Remove the hood cover.
  4. Locate the header and jumper. The password jumper is green.
  5. Remove the jumper from pins 1 and 2. Place the jumper on either pin 1 or 2, but not both, so it does not get lost.
  6. Replace the hood cover.
  7. Reconnect the external equipment.
  8. Plug in the workstation and turn on the power. Allow the operating system to start. This clears the current passwords and disables the password features.
  9. To establish new passwords, repeat steps 1 through 4, replace the password jumper on pins 1 and 2, then repeat steps 6 through 8. Establish the new passwords in Computer Setup.

Desktop wont show on start up of this used hp 8710 i bought and i dont know admin password

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

Hi, I have a Cyclades TS-1000 and I do not have the root password. Is there a way to reset it to the factory defaults.

Well, you don't even have to go to that extreme to recover your root password. Connect to the console port of the TS to your laptop or workstation. Type reboot (as root) and hit Enter. As you watch the boot sequence, pay close attention as you'll need to input characters. Specifically, when you see "Linux PPC Load", press the space bar a couple of times and type out the word single and hit Enter. If you did it in time, you should see a hash (#) prompt without requesting a password. From here, type the command passwd and hit Enter. Choose your password and confirm it. Don't forget to perform a signal_ras hup followed by saveconf to ensure your changes are activated immediately and are saved to flash memory (non-volatile state). From here type reboot again and you should be back in business.

Regards,
John
