SOURCE: broken door catch, possible spring,

If you gently push up on the door latches (hook-like devices on the door) there should be spring tension. If they just flop right up, the spring is off.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have critical safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.

The best place to order parts is Tritronics. You can also call them at 866-779-5835.

SOURCE: Panasonic NN-A554/NN door catch assembly broken.

This is not an easy fix as a DIY because of the way the interal screws are positioned. The inner glass plate and frame have to be removed then using a stick mirror locate the screws and work in reverse of the mirror image. It is easier to have the skilled guys do it I assure you

First turn the micro door upside down and shake it this may dis lodge it make sure its unplugged and rotating table is removed. If you can see the piece try tweezers or needle nose pliers but again make sure it is unplugged during any handling period!

Door release buton does not open the door

You can disassemble the microwave oven and check out the release mechanism. You'll find several hooks that hold the door closed and a linkage mechanism to the door opening button. There may be a broken piece of plastic or maybe just a loose or missing screw that holds linkage together. In the case of a broken plastic part, you can fix it with a 2-part epoxy adhesive, but you'll need to permanently splint across the break with a piece of metal or strong plastic that you've scavenged from somewhere. Before epoxying the splint in place, rough up all plastic surfaces where you want the epoxy to stick well.
Good luck.

I have a Panasonic microwave. It is Model NN-T774SF. It has an inverter. The latch on the door will not close. Is it worth the cost of repair?

This is usually a pretty simple fix.

The spring has probably become disconnected from the door latch head assembly or inner door panel.

If so, you can either order a replacement for the broken part, or install a small screw into the broken part, reinforce it with epoxy, and then reassemble everything.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the parts involved.

We have a Panasonic Genius Prestige 1200 W microwave. The door won't open. Tried unplugging and plugging in; that worked once, but now doesn't help.

Sounds like the door catch is stuck. Perhaps this will help;

Door catches.

One of the latches has broken off and is not lifting the dother latch clear of the housing. Remove from any power source, remove the cover of the cabinet. Slacken off the clamp mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to allow the door to open. When a new door lever is in place, the door may be easily adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I hope that helps.

Panosonic NN-S525BF Latch Spring Broken

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

In most cases, the spring mount on the inner door panel breaks off, and while the ideal way to fix it is to replace that whole panel, the time, cost and labor are considerable.

It's usually easier and cheaper and just as effective to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

Or if there is enough material to drill a hole for the spring, do that, install the spring, then add a dab of epoxy to cover the bottom loop of the spring where it goes through the hole you drilled.

Let the epoxy dry overnight before you close the door or use the oven.

Broken Door Catch Now oven won't work

You can order parts online by entering your full model number (without dashes) here: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/epartr Chances are the panels separate as shown in the photo I have attached below. Panel replacement can usually be done without removing the door from the microwave. In cases where it is felt that door removal is necessary, I recommend detaching the door from the hinges. I generally do not advise removing the hinges from the microwave. Whenever the hinges are removed, great care must be taken to put them back in the very same position they were in. Failure to do so can cause microwave leakage, which can cause risk of skin burns, fire, and disruption nearby electronic devices. If you still have questions, please feel free to follow up. I appreciate your thoughtful ratings to my reply.
