Question about Tomtom GPS
By dropping out I am assuming you mean it freezes up and turns off.
If this is the case your XXL has an incompatible bootloader and requires updating. This will be the case even if you updated it via tomtom HOME. Back up your map, voices and zip then reformat and reinstall navcore

You can use the PREFERENCES menu option to change the volume of the voice instructions. Use 'Volume preferences' , with its sliding scale to set the required volume in increments of 5%.
The 'Test' function is a good way to get the volume right before starting your journey. You may also find it helpful to use 'Link volume to car speed', so that the voice instructions get louder as road noise increases and are at their quietest when you are stationary.
