To lose one pound per week how many calories do you need to subtract from your daily intake

That would depend entirely on how many calories your lifestyle, activity, metabolism, location, climate, ambient temperature and suchlike caused you to burn each day.

All those variables affect the amount of calories needed to maintain health. A man working in arctic conditions could need as much as 6000 calories each day but the same man working in the tropics would probably maintain good health with around 2200, less if he has a sedentary occupation.

It is not a precise science and in addition most diets include a number of useless calories. When dieting, incidentally, an obesity diet of 1000 calories per day or less should not be undertaken unless under medical supervision.

How many calories do I need to burn to drop one pound of fat?

it is very approximate but one pound of fat equals about 3500 calories. So to lose about a pound of weight in a week you would need to reduce your calorie intake and/or increase your exercise. For example, you could exercise off 300 calories a day and drop 200 calories from your food intake and if you did this for 7 days, you should lose a pound.

How can I gain weight naturaly without weight gain products?

Hi there,

Have a blessed day.

Here are the simple tips to gain weight naturally:

1. Figure out the number of calories that you normally consume in a day. Do this by keeping a food journal for a week. Refer to a calorie-counting book to add up the daily calories, and divide the total by seven. That will give you your average daily calorie total.

2. To gain two pounds per week, you'll need to add an additional 7,000 calories to your week, or 1,000 calories per day. To gain one pound per week, you'll have to add 500 calories per day. That may sound daunting, but by making some simple switches in your meals, you can safely pack on some pounds.

3.Increase portion sizes of healthy foods. Adding an extra two ounces of lean chicken to your dinner will give you an additional 100 calories. Adding a whole avocado to your salad will add 322 calories, according to CalorieKing, a diet and weight loss website.

4.Eat more frequently throughout the day. Adding a fourth meal of fruit, whole grains and nuts -- such as a peanut butter sandwich and a banana -- will boost your calorie count for the day by as much as 35 percent. Eat breakfast at 7:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m., an extra meal at 3:30 p.m. and then dinner at 7 p.m. Continue to include a snack after dinner.
5.Splurge on high-calorie treats such as milkshakes and smoothies. While they can be high in saturated fat and sugar, they can sometimes pack in as many as 1,000 calories in a serving. The "build-up" smoothies at Smoothie King range in calories from 180 to 1,035 for a 20-ounce serving.

6.Weight train to add muscle bulk, but keep in mind the aerobic calories you may also be expending.

Please be reminded with the following tips and warnings.

1.Try some relaxation exercises to calm you down. Fidgeting burns calories that you want to keep when you're trying to gain weight.

2.Do not try to gain weight by eating high-fat foods. This can lead to heart disease and gallbladder attacks as your body tries to metabolize the bad fats.

3.Check with your doctor to see if you have an underlying medical condition that keeps you from gaining weight.
Hope it helps. Goodluck.

Thank you for using fixya.

For lunch, Marco is having peach halves on cottage cheese and lettuce. The lettuce has 2 calories; the 3 peach halves each have 81 calories, and each ounce of cottage cheese has 20 calories. If Marco wants...

3 Peach Halves at 81 calories = 243 calories + lettuce at 2 calories = 245 calories

385 calories total - above 245 calories = 140 calories

140 calories / 20 calories per ounce = 7 ounces of cottage cheese

It appears my F6 monitor is not keeping accurant time on calories and heart rate. I like the watch but while checking my sitting heart rate is very low. When checking the heart rate on a blood pressure...

First you need to understand that the Polar system is a medical grade device and it is calculating calories based on specific information that you have inputed and heart rate data from your heart.

Most treadmills and other exercise machines use a much simpler counter that is height and weight based to calculate calories and are generally over generous with their numbers.

Depending on the blood pressure machine you are using, the pulse (not heart rate) is coming through the brachial artery, again not quite as accurate as measuring r-r variance from your heart. There is a ton of literature you can read if you are into the accurateness of the system, but I will sum up with saying that you actual calorie expenditure will be closer on the Polar than on most other devices outside of a hospital. As too the heart rate this is also true, so more likely you are getting inaccurate numbers from the other devices.

If you want pinpoint accuracy then you will need to use the Polar RS800 or S810 devices that measure and display true R-R.

I have the timex fitness trainer and it is calculating my calories for a man and I need it calculated for a woman. Help!

Simple! men and women burn calories at the same rate. And the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn to conduct an excersize. And the more fat you have, the more calories you will burn from fat.

My Garmin 305 wont record calories when I'm in the Gym. I select the "Other" sport mode, the little guy skiing, and It doesn't recored or even register calories? It records during my Jog sessions while...

The 305 uses distance to calculate calories. They sell a "foot pod" that you can use indoors, and that will count your calories by calculating the distance you have traveled. The problem however, is that using distance to calculate calories is so inaccurate! The calorie count that the 305 provides is almost always WAY too high. Other heart rate monitors use heart rate to calculate calories burned, and it is a much more accurate measure. My garmin thinks i burned 700 calories an hour today while i was snowboarding, and, while that would be nice, there is NO way it's true!!
