I tried to hook up my Dell Optiplex 745 and I herd a split second pop.

I moved to Europe and I brought my computer with me. I hooked everythink up the right way and for got to flip the switch on the back of the computer to the right power and I plugged the computer to the nearest wall outlet and for a split second a pop sound happened. Now the computer does not turn on! What happened, how can I fix it and what? If it has fuses, where are they? I was in a rash to get everything packed and ready for shipping, so I did not even think about the switch on the back. Please help me and tell me what to do!

It is likely your power supply was fried, but this does not mean you are out a computer. Bring it to a local repair shop and they can swap your power supply that can adequately charge your components.

SOURCE: Dell Optiplex Power-on Problem

An Amber or Yellow power button means that the power supply is receiving power from the source but is unable to properly distribute it to the components. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc...
Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

SOURCE: My Dell Optiplex 745 "No Boot Device Available"

No boot device means that the computer cannot find a drive that has a operating system files and therefore cannot boot up.
This usually means that the hard drive in the computer is faulty.
You need to get a new hard drive and install Windows on the hard drive, together with the drivers for the computer's installed devices and programs to get a working computer.

I have a Dell Optiplex 745 desktop computer and now it does not work!

You have fried your power supply. If you are lucky, that is all you have done but when it blew, there is a chance it sent a surge that also damaged the motherboard or some other component.

My dell desktop asking for a password

If you want to create a new Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) password on a Dell Optiplex 745, reset the password. Resetting the password also applies if you want to remove an existing BIOS password. BIOS passwords are used to add an additional level of security to your machine. Without the correct BIOS password, your Dell Optiplex 745 will not complete the boot process. The password can be reset whether you know your current password or not.

Turn off your Dell Optiplex 745. Start the computer. Press "F2" the moment the Dell logo appears on the screen. You will only have two to three seconds to press the key. Enter your BIOS password. Navigate to the "Exit" screen. Select the "BIOS Password" setting. Enter your BIOS password and a new password if desired. Do not enter anything in the "New Password" box if you want to remove the BIOS password completely. Press "Enter" to save your password settings. Reset Forgotten Passwords Turn off your Dell Optiplex 745 and remove the power cord from the computer. Disconnect any external hardware and cables. Slide the release latch located on the back of your Optiplex 745. Lift the cover as you slide the latch. Hold the cover firmly and pivot it back on the hinges. Remove the cover from the hinges. Find the "PSWD" jumper on the motherboard. This is a two-pin jumper and should be clearly labeled. Use a flashlight and magnifying glass if you have trouble locating it. Remove the jumper from the motherboard. Replace the cover and slide it into place until the latch snaps into place. Reconnect the power cable and restart your computer. Shut down the computer after it has completely restarted. Disconnect all cables and remove the cover again. Replace the PSWD jumper. Replace the cover. Reconnect all cables and restart your computer.

I boutght used optiplex 745 turn on asks 4 password i dont have

For most Dell Optiplex desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are:
Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board.
Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2.
Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds.
Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2.

Bought a used Dell Optiplex 745 Desktop Computer. Seems to boot up okay, but no video. Want to check inside to see if any connectors are loose. How do you remove off the cover(s)?; I don't see any screws...

Hello,

To remove the side of the Dell Optiplex 745 cases you need to push the release latch on the back either top or side depending on whether it is a tower or a desktop. The latch just slides back and the side will release and the cover will pop loose. The normal issue with this model is not a bad video card, it is bad capacitors on the motherboard. We repair these boards all the time for a federal prison that is located near our office. Look over this guide we have posted on our site that explains what to look for and what to do about it. http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/dell-optiplex-745-repair/ The repair is easy to do if you can solder, We have 4 units in right now for repair. Check out your board, I would bet his is what your problem is.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hook vga cord to hdtv and optiplex desk top get

Try a different display setting, for example, 1280 x 800 or 1024 x 768. Once you can see (computer) display, then move onto the best resolution which your display card support for your HDTV. Good luck..

(btw, if your dell has two vga sockets, get another vga cable. Then set your computer to a dual display mode, one for your computer and the other for HDTV. this way you will never lose your display.)
