Cannot clear error message "Document

Hi nigel_lester,

This error message "Document in ADF" that you are getting means that you need to remove foreign object from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Kindly follow the procedure below in clearing document jams:

Document jams in the ADF (Document Tray)

1. First, press Stop/Reset.
2. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any documents other than the jammed page from the ADF. 3. Then, open the Feeder Cover.
4. From under the roller to the Feeder Cover side, remove the jammed page.
5. If a document is not jammed, check the document feed area if there's foreign material. If there's any, carefully remove it.
6. Close the Feeder Cover.

NOTE:
  • If documents remain in the ADF after pressing during scanning, [Document in ADF] will appear on the LCD. Press so that the remaining document is automatically fed out.
  • When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Document jams in the ADF (inner side)

1. Press Stop/Reset.
2. If a multi-page document is loaded, remove any documents other than the jammed page from the ADF, then open the Feeder Cover.
3. Raise the paper release lever (A) then remove the jammed page from under the roller to the Feeder Cover side.
4. Open the Document Cover and pull out the document from the inner side.
5. Close the Document Cover.
6. Close the Feeder Cover.

Note: When rescanning the document after clearing the error, rescan it from the first page.

Hope it helps.

I have canon 320 MX, and I recived all the time a messege - document in the ADF, I press OK , then I recive a second messege - close the feeder cover and eject the document.NO documents are in the printer...

Hi!
look more closely on the ADF section, if there is no paper remains then you must need to check if the paper feed sensor is not press down or stuck. This sensor, a small plastic latch slide is responsible for detecting load paper in the ADF section. Check if there is something that keeping it stuck in that position. You will need to open the cover of the ADF section to do this.

Hope it works.

I keep getting an alarm and it is saying document in ADF. There is nothing stuck in it, I've tried everything!

You could have a stuck or broken document edge sensor. There is usually a small lever that the document pushes down when you slide it into the feeder. This lever should move smoothly. If it is stuck down or broken the unit will think there is always a document in the feeder.

Some units have two sensor levers, one sensing the leading edge and one sensing the trailing edge when the document exits the feeder. If either one is stuck you could get a jam error. If both levers are working (if you can locate both of them) then one of the sensors may be bad (they are usually optical pair sensors inside the feeder housing). Of course, if the sensors are good and you still get an error the main board may be bad, but that is fairly unlikely.

Most likely is that there is something jammed into the feeder at the exit or where the document enters and it's pushing on one of the levers.

Feeder is jammed

Hi,

The unit may have a paper jam or stuck object inside, if you have experience a paper jam error before, check the printer for any object or paper stuck inside, clean roller.

Some error like this can be a problem on the feeder sensor and by this time you may need to replace and repair the unit.

Hope this initial info helps

Canon IR 105 Will Print from Network and Fiery but won't copy

So, the feeder will not pull in the paper, If this is the case, check the throat of the document feeder for foreign objects, (staples, paperclips, post it notes, or signature flags). you can clean the rollers with alcohol, and blow out the document feeder with compressed air. (Computer Duster)

Hope this is of some help.

Document jam

There is a sensor in the document feeder that most likely is stuck on the frame or the spring fell off and is not resetting. Have you taken a minela folder and run it through the feeder to be sure there is not a small fragmant of paper on the sensors? If you havent try that, or a piece of paper folded in half twice and keep sliding it though the feeder.
You would have to take the feeder apart to get the sensor set, That is best accomplished by taking the back cover off, then the left side cover, ( looking from the front) and disconnecting the feedder connectors, then removing it from the scanner.
