Put the thread through one of the holes. Then put the bobbin on the spindle. Pull about 3 or 4 inches out of the hole and hold on to it. Start winding the bobbin. After about ten turns, or when the winding thread is secure, you can stop the machine and cut off this 3 or 4 inch tail. To insure that the thread winds up and down the bobbin and not off the top or bottom, there is probably a metal bobbin tension disk that the thread must pass around before it goes to the bobbin. It is probably on the left of the machine and may or may not be part of a thread guide. The thread must pass around this disk on its way to the bobbin in order to put tension on the thread so it will wind properly. If you can't find the disk, which is a small metal button or screw with some type of somewhat moveable spring cap, you can just get the thread to pass through your thumb and forefinger. Hold your hand 6 or 8 inches to the left of the bobbin and pass the thread between your thumb and forefinger so that it makes the thread go in a direct straight line to the bobbin. Pinch the thread only enough to keep it taught but not tight and let it flow through your finger to the bobbin. The thread should go up and down evenly on the bobbin. If not, move your hand up or down to position it so the thread will wind up and down smoothly. It will not be necessary to move your hand once you find the correct position needed for winding.

SOURCE: Elna Primula 410 Bobbin Winding Question

Wind the Bobbin
For the usual jobs, it is the best to use a medium sized thread.
2. Disengage the flywheel by unscrewing the coupling knob as far as it will go.

3. Place the bobbin on the bobbin winder, and push the bobbin winder to the right.

4. Pull out one of the spool pins and place the spool of thread on it.

5. Pass the thread through the bobbin winder tension discs, as indicated.

6. Wind the end of the thread around the bobbin by hand, in the direction indicated.

7. Wind the bobbin, at a medium speed by pressing lightly with a finger on the spool so as to stretch the thread better and thus fill the bobbin to a maximum. The full bobbin stops automatically.

8. Re-engage the flywheel by tightening the coupling knob.

9. Cut the thread and remove the bobbin from the bobbin winder by pushing the latter to the left.

SOURCE: Singer 6267 self winding bobbin winds around shaft under

I just figured out why my bobbine was winding on shaft instead of on the bobbin. first of all make sure the bobbin is setting up high enough, top of bobbin needs to be a fraction higher then the bobbin shuttle, next check to make sure there are no burrs on the bobbin, then make sure that the thear is catching in the groove (**** in top) of the bobbin. In order to get mine to wind i had to lett the tread go down and then slip the thread in the groove. also remember to leave the pressure foot up do not put it down. let me know if this helps.

SOURCE: I have a Brothers XL-3200 which works great but

Your thread tension needs adjustment.

Most likely it is the lower thread tension (not the upper thread tensioner).

When sewing very thin or very heavy material - it is required to adjust the lower tension as well.

To regulate the lower thread tension - turn the small screw on the tension spring of the bobbin case with a small screwdriver.

To increase tension - turn it clockwise SLIGHTLY.

SOURCE: Brother SE-270D sewing machine bobbin won't wind

the rubber ring on the bobbin winder has probably gone bad which would mean replacing it but you can buy a portable bobbin winder called a sidewinder for around 20.00

I have a brother model XL-5500 sewing machine but I do not know how to wind elastic thread onto the bobbin please help me

Generally, elastic thread should be hand-wound onto a bobbin to use in a sewing machine. This allows the elastic thread to be wound without any stretch incorporated before stitching.

The machine will not turn the spindle to wind cotton onto the bobbin.

What model Bernina is it? Most operate on a simple system where a rubber wheel on the bobbin winder comes into contact with the handwheel (under the cover) ... the handwheel is disengaged so the needle has no drive.......

Broken bobbin winder

For $29 at Hancock, Jo Ann's or Wal Mart you can get a thing called a Side Winder that will wind your bobbins without using the winder on your sewing machine. It has the additional advantage that you can wind while sewing. I use it even with machines that will wind bobbins.

I cannot get the machine to make a bobbin can someone help? please

Refer to your manual, or download one at the Brother website. You can view or print the manual at no charge.

If, after you read and apply the instructions, you still cannot wind the bobbin, take the machine to a Brother dealer for assistance.

HOW TO THREAD THE BOBBIN

Take the thread-end from the thread spool to the left, around the bottom of the "silver" "button"; across the top of the button and back to the right to the bobbin winder.

Run the thread-end through a hole in the side of the bobbin spool, hold onto the thread (pull through about 5" of thread) and place the bobbin spool onto the the bobbin winding pin.

You may have to turn a bit to the left or right to get the spool in place. Push the bobbin spool to the right; against the bobbin winding wheel.

Press on the power pedal - keeping hold of the thread-end.

As the bobbin fills, the thead end will twist.

When you can not longer hold on. Stop the machine and clip the thread end then continue to wind the bobbin.
