Hard Drive Replacement

The hard drive in my m7760n is failing. I tried to replace it with another SATA drive. After physically removed the old drive and replacing it with the new one, the BIOS still calls out the old drive as the first drive (primary) and the new drive is recognized as the third (the DVD being the second). How do I make the new drive into the primary? FYI, BIOS version - Phoenix Award v5.08.

SOURCE: computer doesn't see new secondary hard drive

There is no option in the bios to enable sata. It appears that the sata ports are just for decoration (hence hp using IDE)

Check if you can use SATA else you'll have to look for IDE
Actually to insert a SATA drive is easier then replace a light-bulc.
Just remove cables, unscrew from "drawer" insrtn new drive, scress, replace cables.
If it's a system disk, the difficulty is resintall your system. After you've replaced Hard disk, formulate your question with more doubts

How do i replace and set up a new hard drive

Physical replacement is not hard. Just make sure you buy the correct new hard drive - sata/ide. Connect it the same way the older drive was connected. 1 connector for power, 1 connector for communication, nowadays usually sata. And you're done. After that it's operating system installation time. Most likely from a dvd/cd-rom drive. Most of operating systems now install quite easy next/next/next/default/licence key/next/next... I do suggest you get someone to help you install operating system anyway.

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

hope this will help

Try connecting it to another computer.
If it does not work, then either the disk-drive has failed,
or the USB-cable is damaged,
or the USB-to-disk-drive interface inside the case has failed.

Is the SAMSUNG still under warranty? (1 year? 2 years? 3 years?)
If so, SAMSUNG will replace it, at minimal cost to you.

My computer stopped detecting my hard drive

Hi, Based on your post/description: 1. Tried on 3 different computers - no go, so it's not a PC problem; 2. Tried replacing the cable - no go, so it's not an interface problem; 3. That leaves you only with the Firelite itself. An external hardrive would consist of 2 main parts, the electronic board and the hard disk itself. The board seldom (if ever) fails. Its function is to provide conversion/interface from the SATA/IDE connectors of the HD to the out USB/Firewire. The HD more often than not fails. Most external storage uses a standard HD inside the enclosure. Your possible options: a. Claim warranty/replacement; b. Replace the HD only; c. Physically remove the HD and connect it direct to a desktop either as IDE or SATA and run manufacturer's diagnostic and/or third party recovery software; d. Seek services of professional data recovery firms (if data/files are mission critical); Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Hi, This is a common problem with external storage. Based on your post/description: 1. Your laptop does not recognize the external hard drive via its USB connection - try on a different computer - if it is still a no go, then it's not a PC problem; 2. Try replacing the cable - again if a no go, so it's not an interface/cable problem; 3. That leaves you only with the PS3200 itself as the possible at fault. An external hardrive would consist of 2 main parts, the electronic board and the hard disk itself. The board seldom (if ever) fails.
