This is common with generic cartridges. If it is a genuine HP cartridge, you could return it, or try this

Try resetting the ink settings on the printer's program. I use compatable cartidges all the time in my lexmark no problems, as long as i always rest the ink before i start a new one. Try a good clean too. Why are you contacting hp site if your printer is a lexmark. You need the lexmark site. I thought your printer issue is with a lexmark z1420

Are you using a manufacture brand? If your are not I would recommend you get a mfg brand. If your are using a MFG brand then probably your print head is defective usually this is not worth fixing as it is cheaper to get a new one than fix your old one. Good luck

I've been having the same problem every time I replace cartridges and have contacted HP Support who advised me to do resets, which initially appeared to be successful. Tonight I had a similar problem but could not clear it. After much fiddling around with removing and replacing cartridges, and resetting the printer several times, I noticed a grey lever on the right-hand side of the print head. I lifted that and pushed it back down again. Hey presto - the printer is working again!!

I am sorry but 301 is not the right cartridge.
The cartridge that this printer uses is Hp 61 Black and Hp 61 Tricolor

Replaced black print cartridge rejected.


Hi there remove the cartrideg & reset the printer first. After that off the printer. Now fix the cartridge in printer. Turn on again. If you face same problem then reset again with cartridge, give a test print from print preferrence. I hope your problem will solve then. Thanks & waiting for your feedback.

My HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One keeps rejecting my color cartriges. I am willing to just print in Black, but it blocks all print jobs. Any ideas on how to by-pass the color cartrige block?


uninstall the software by going into add/remove programs. Then look at the color cartridge and make sure its an original HP cartridge and not one of the 3rd party type of color cartridges. Try to use originals if you can so you don't run into the printer rejecting them.

With the operating system clean of the software go thru the steps in this guide to make sure everything is being installed properly:

This will make sure that the cartridges are installed and that the software is being reinstalled so nothing is corrupted.

If the printer is still blocking print jobs or rejecting cartridges then you know that its either a printhead problem or a main board issue, either way you would have to get the printer replaced.

Cartridge light blinking red after refills installed. Tried to reinstall and restart but continues.


The printer may have detected a refilled cartridge and is rejecting it for incompatibility, try installing the old HP cartridge back to see if the light goes away

As the printer was bought in the US the printer is meant to use the #02 cartridges.

When you decided to replace the empty cartridges with refilled ones…the place you took them to be refilled more than likely decided to replace the little chip with a local flavour, which attempt to mimic original HP cartridges #363 (or what ever the number of those cartridges is where you are now). Hence now they are rejected by your printer.

But because the printer is only designed to use #02 cartridges it will reject every other cartridge/chip that do not have an #02 programmed into them….

You could try to call HP and explain them your situation and see if they can help you reset your printer to accept a different cartridge number …

I have a C8180 photosmart HP aLL IN ONE PRINTER. i GET CODE 0XC18A0105. WHAT TO DO? perhaps I get punished because I did not use HP cartridges?


The printer is effectively rejecting one or more of the cartridges that you have put in the printer. However, this could be a result of having a defective or incorrectly set chip on one of the cartridges. The best option is to insert some different cartridges, preferably HP and make sure that the printer has white A4 paper inserted when you initially switch on so it completes the registration process without error.

Cartridge 57 failed

I think I may have solved this problem. What I did was take out the #56 cartridge and hit the print button. It started to calibrate and then said it was printing on reserve or something? Yup, it printed with only one (#57 cartridge). After that, I stuck in a new #56 cartridge and so far so good for it only happened yesterday.

I hope this solves your cartridge #57 failed problem. Let me know if it does.
